Star Trek: Picard - The Final Season is a three-disc Blu-ray release featuring the complete third season of Star Trek: Picard. The release came packaged in a Viva Elite case within a slipcover. A Limited SteelBook^® was concurrently released with the standard release in both regions A and B.

While in a very few cases still being marketed as region-restricted, the releases are in actuality region-free as this has become commonplace for the Blu-ray format – also explaining the unified inclusion of subtitles and dubbed language audio tracks for all regions.

Background information[]

• Slated for a simultaneous Region A release in Canada (albeit in bi-lingual packaging), fans reported that the Final Season release had initially been postponed in that country for undisclosed reasons, and that its inhabitants had to make do with US imports. [2] That turned out to be temporary however, as the Blu-ray format at least, became later that week available in its bi-lingual packaging after all – its DVD counterpart however, remained reliant on US imports.
• The season three set was simultaneously released with the complete series collection box set.

• One day after the US Region A release, reviewers discovered a visual effects editing error on the home video format releases. A ten-second USS Enterprise-D going into warp sequence, occurring in the final episode on Disc 3 at timecode 2:06, was a different, less interesting and more bland take than was streamed in the home market on Paramount+, which TrekCore speculated was an alternate VFX take of the sequence. Former Picard VFX Production Manager Shawn Ewashko was quick to point out that his VFX department had nothing to do whatsoever with selection of the shot for inclusion on the home video formats. [3] Diligent viewers had already noticed in April 2023 that it had been the more bland edit that was used for the European streamings. [4] Two weeks later, Paramount Home Entertainment confirmed that the bland edit did indeed concern an early alternate VFX take, but that the later enhanced edit (originally produced for the theatrical screening) would henceforth be used for all subsequent home video format disc pressings. [5][6] For those region A customers who already had bought the set, a separate opportunity was offered to get a replacement disc. [7] Despite the Star Trek franchise's assurances though, the bland edit was still the one included on the French Region B Blu-ray release.
• Excerpts from all special features were already featured as bonus featurettes in The Ready Room fifth season episodes dealing with Picard's third season. However, almost none of these were actually included as such on the home video formats as eventually released, a peculiar policy practice introduced for all Kurtzman-era Star Trek home video format releases, starting with Picard's first season home video format release. [8]
• While the previous series home video release had seen a much shorter Region B/C release delay, this release saw an extended three-month release delay for Region B. Constituting a break in the near simultaneous all regions release tradition, the partial return to the practice had originally been conceived as a compromise between Paramount Home Entertainment and Prime Video, the first-time streamer of the series for the rest of the world outside North America, and who had strong commercial incentives for delaying a physical home video format for as long as possible (see main article). The sharp reduction of the previous release delay time-span though, was initially an indication that Paramount Global was preparing to cut Prime Video out of the franchise equation in favor of their own streaming service (see Streaming war). The return to a much longer release delay can only be explained as an appeasement overture to Prime Video, as Paramount was in the market for a buyer for their recently scrapped and from the franchise removed Star Trek: Prodigy series. Prime did not take the bait as the series was ultimately picked up by Netflix.
• The somewhat unexpected 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray releases of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds caused the wishful expectations of fans to go rampant for a similar release of Picard's third season, which had at that point in time become the absolute fan favorite as the most well received Kurtzman-era Star Trek production by far. [9] The ardent fan hopes and the accompanying fan petition drive notwithstanding though, [10] such a release had never been in the making at all, for a rather prosaic reason in this case actually; the entire series had not been produced to 4K HD standards and a remastering was therefore deemed far too cost-prohibitive considering the fast shrinking physical home video disc market. [11][12]
