Silva La Forge was a female Human Starfleet officer who lived during the 24th century. By 2369, she became the captain of the USS Hera. She was married to exozoologist Edward M. La Forge and had two children, son Geordi, and daughter Ariana.

La Forge and her husband spent time apart during their career. She was posted to multiple outposts near the Romulan Neutral Zone while Edward did research in the Modean system. (TNG: "Imaginary Friend") In 2369, she was given command of the Hera. (TNG: "Interface")

When Geordi was young, he lived with her and then with his father occasionally, instilling a familiarity with moving. (TNG: "Imaginary Friend") In 2340, La Forge and her husband helped Geordi get out of a fire he got caught in. After this, Geordi wouldn't let Edward and Silva get out of earshot. (TNG: "Hero Worship")

In 2370, the Hera went missing. La Forge and the rest of the vessel's crew were listed as missing in action. Subsequent search missions by starships USS Nobel and USS Excelsior revealed no trace of the ship's whereabouts or fate. She was survived by her husband and children. (TNG: "Interface")

Appendices[]

Background information[]

Captain La Forge was played by Madge Sinclair, also known for her portrayal of the unnamed Saratoga captain in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. It was her last of four roles in which she portrayed LeVar Burton's on-screen mother.

The personnel file for Geordi seen onscreen in "The Next Phase" lists his mother's name as Alvera K. La Forge, but was contradicted by this later name for her established in the script of "Interface". "Alvera" was the first name of Rick Berman's mother (his father had the first name "Edward").

Apocrypha[]

In an alternate timeline featured in the Star Trek: Myriad Universes novella Brave New World, Captain La Forge was still alive in 2378.
