A shaker was a small jar-like container used to store and dose seasonings like salt and pepper.
Salt and pepper shakers made of metal were in use in the mess halls aboard Enterprise NX-01 and USS Voyager. (ENT: "The Andorian Incident", "Breaking the Ice", "Fortunate Son"; Star Trek: Voyager)
