Lieutenant Shabarnes was a hybrid individual created from the forced transporter merging of Shaxs and Barnes, by means of the symbiogenetic alien orchid, aboard the USS Cerritos in 2381. Their creation was ordered by T'Illups, who sought to create an army of hybrids, so as to escape the fate suffered by Tuvix on the USS Voyager. Shabarnes and Swhale Swhalens were created after Frigleeman and before Chondus.
Shabarnes assisted T'Illups in gathering more Cerritos crew members to be symbiogenetically merged. After they combined Lieutenant Westlake and Ensign Jennifer Sh'reyan, all six hybrids were beamed into the brig by Ensign T'Lyn. However, since they were carrying samples of the orchid, they re-materialized as a single non-sentient amalgamation. (LD: "Twovix")
