Racial slur

A racial slur was an pejorative rooted in racism.

In 2371, Enabran Tain praised Elim Garak's use of the term "pointed-ear friends" to describe the former Obsidian Order head's Romulan traveling companions. He reasoned that Garak had set a trap for him; if Tain defended the Romulans, it would reveal his allegiance to them. If, on the other hand, Tain ignored the comment, it would irk the Romulans, thereby creating the potential for conflict between them. (DS9: "Improbable Cause")

Also that year, Harry Kim noted that Starfleet Academy had warned its cadets about the Ferengi, which Quark extrapolated to mean that slurs about the Ferengi had been propagated. (VOY: "Caretaker")
