The location of Andoria, and the Andorian system, in the 24th century

Alpha Beta Quadrant Overview star chart

Alpha/Beta Quadrant Overview

Procyon, or Andoria, was a pair of binary stars consisting of the stars Procyon A and Procyon B. These stars, located in the Alpha Quadrant, were approximately eleven light years from the Sol system.

History[]

In 2256, this star's location was labeled on the star chart "Alpha/Beta Quadrant Overview" in the ready room aboard the USS Discovery. (DIS: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad")

In 2257, during the first Federation-Klingon War, this star's system was near the front line. (DIS: "The War Without, The War Within")

In 2364, the location of Procyon was labeled in a star chart of a stellar neighborhood with Sol at the center. This chart was stored in the USS Enterprise-D library computer. Later that year, the chart was scanned by Outpost 63. (TNG: "The Naked Now", production art; TNG: "The Last Outpost")

Procyon's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. Procyon was in or near to Federation space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

In 2401, Procyon's position was labeled on a star chart used by Captain William T. Riker during his attempt at finding the last known location of the SS Eleos XII. (PIC: "The Next Generation")

In an alternate future, the Battle of Procyon V, where the Sphere-Builders were defeated, was fought here in the 26th century. (ENT: "Azati Prime")

In 3189, the location of Andoria was denoted on a holographic star chart of the galaxy at Federation Headquarters. Andoria was located in the territory of the Emerald Chain. (DIS: "Die Trying", "Scavengers")

Appendices[]

Background information[]

A picture of a star chart supposedly used for Star Trek: Discovery was tweeted by Ted Sullivan on 28 November 2017. According to this map, the star Andoria was also known as Procyon, or Alpha Canis Minoris. [1]

The star chart seen in Fleet Admiral Clancy's office used this label, "Procyon (Andoria)", connecting these two locations together.

In the final draft script of ENT: "The Aenar", the Andorian sun was said to be "powerful" and, as seen from the surface of Andoria, to radiate "brilliant sunlight with a slightly bluish hue."

The star chart naming the stars within twenty light years of Sol was drawn by Rick Sternbach for the Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology (p. 77) in the late 1970s. This chart showed Earth commercial and exploration routes after the use of warp drive began. There were no commercial or exploration routes to this system.

According to the Star Trek: Star Charts (pp. 19 & 36) and the Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the two stars of the Procyon (Andoria, Alpha Canis Majoris) star system were a F-class star and an A-class star. An inhabited moon, Andoria (the Andorian homeworld), was located in this system. In the 22nd century, the system was a stop on the Earth trade routes. The system was located in Sector 006 (Andorian Sector). According to Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 62) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), Andoria, also known as Procyon and Alpha Canis Majoris, was a multi-star with a F-class star and an A-class star.

Apocrypha[]

In the game Star Trek Online, Procyon is depicted as a system directly adjacent to the Andorian system, and Procyon V is said to be one of the first exoplanets visited by Andorian space explorers.
