The species is mentioned merely as O. lum ran, however it appears further up the evolutionary tree from a species called Oniboshi lum. A third related species appears to be misspelled Oniobshi benten.
The name of this species is a reference to the Japanese anime and manga series Urusei Yatsura, which features aliens with the names Lum and Ran, the latter hailing from a planet called Oniboshi.
