Nova class, 2381 — Nova class near Lapeeria

This starship arrived at Lapeeria along with several other support ships during the Federation's first contact mission there with the Lapeerians in late 2381.

The ship later transported Starfleet Security Commander Mandel and his prisoner Captain Carol Freeman back to Federation space for her planned tribunal. (LD: "First First Contact")

Frontier Day 2401[]

In 2401, twenty ships of this class took part in the ill-fated Frontier Day celebrations near Sol Station, where they were part of the Starfleet vessels taken over by the Borg while in fleet formation mode. The USS Erebus and USS Mandel were known to be among the present class vessels. (PIC: "Vox", "The Last Generation")

The total number of Nova-class vessels present at Frontier Day was established by former Star Trek: Picard Research Assistant Jörg Hillebrand. [1]

The near indistinguishable Nova-class vessels were only seen as deep background elements, and the CG model that the visual effects department used for them was not the original production asset that had been used for its previous appearances in Star Trek: Voyager, but rather the model Tobias Richter had constructed for the Star Trek Online computer game. [2][3] In a unique collaboration between game developer Cryptic Studios and the creative minds behind Picard, their model was put at the latter's disposal for live-action production purposes, [4] and was already utilized as such in the guise of CSS Dougherty and CSS Quinn in Picard's preceding season episode "Assimilation", in a more discernible manner incidentally.
