Eight weeks prior to stardate 53329, an away team from USS Voyager encountered a Kartelan freighter carrying supplies from Sector 492. The freighter had previously visited a former Talaxian colony, where it had acquired several kilograms of amber spice. Neelix was able to procure twelve kilograms of the spice for his food stores. Kartelan was, according to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 1, p. 403, a space faring Delta Quadrant civilization.
