Ensign Big Merp, also known as Merp, was a male member of Merp's species who served in Starfleet during the late 24th century. During the 2380s, he served aboard the USS Cerritos under Captain Carol Freeman and was assigned to the bunks in the LD sleeping quarters with many of the other lower deckers assigned to delta shift.
In 2381, he was walking through the corridor, wearing only a towel, when Captain Freeman announced to the crew that all hands were to report to their commanding officers to assist in removing the deck plates from the Cerritos in order to save the USS Archimedes. (LD: "First First Contact")
Later that year, he served on the away team under Lieutenant Brad Boimler, along with Lt. j.g. T'Lyn, and Ensigns Taylor and Meredith on Corazonia. (LD: "In the Cradle of Vexilon")
Big Merp was among those telepathically influenced by T'Lyn's emotional turmoil, causing him to strip off half his uniform and become engrossed in a Ktarian game. (LD: "Empathological Fallacies")
