A bargain was the process for negotiating and the eventual agreement or contract establishing what each party will give, receive, or perform in a transaction.
In 2254, there was a bargain between Vina and Captain Christopher Pike. If she answered his questions about the Talosians, he would pick a dream and live it with her. After answering his questions, Pike reneged on the bargain, saying he made it with something that did not exist. (TOS: "The Cage")
