The Alita class was a type of Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the early 25th century.

History[]

The Alita-class was in service on or sometime prior to 2401, and bore a strong resemblance to the contemporary Akira and Norway classes.

Fourteen ships of this class participated in Frontier Day celebrations near Sol Station. Along with the rest of the fleet, these ships were seized by the Borg Collective after their younger crews were assimilated by a Borg signal transmitted via Jack Crusher. (PIC: "Vox")

Command and control systems[]

By 2401, the computer systems on board the class had been built to include the Fleet formation mode, also known as Starfleet emergency protocol NX12.11, designed to place all Federation starships within a fleet under the automated control of the Starfleet mainframe. (PIC: "Võx")

Background information[]

Before its on-screen appearance in 2023, the Alita-class debuted in 2015 in the game Star Trek Online, [1] construed as a 25th century cosmetic "skin" of the Akira-class starship. In keeping with the Akira-class being named for the cyberpunk anime film Akira, the Alita class is likely named for the cyberpunk manga and anime series Battle Angel Alita. The game also identifies two ships of the class: the USS Alita (NCC-97305) (β) and the USS Powhatan (NCC-97309) (β).

The Alita-class was named in a size chart of Federation starship classes provided by Dave Blass on his twitter account. The ship class is 1,554 feet (473.5 meters) in length. [2]

The total number of Alita-class vessels present at Frontier Day was established by Picard Research Assistant Jörg Hillebrand. [3]
