MCreator x CurseForge ModJam 2024: Contestants

The first phase of MCreator x CurseForge ModJam is over. Contestants made the mods and now it is on us, the community, to check them out! Learn about the contestants in the article!

Almost 60 contestants

First of all, we have to say that we are amazed by the response of the community to the contest. We have received almost 60 valid mod submissions which is a lot! We can't wait to try them all out :D There have been some submissions that did not follow some of the rules of the ModJam and are therefore not included in the internal mod voting.

The first phase of the selection

Now that the submissions are closed, the CurseForge and MCreator teams will do internal voting where we will pick the top 5 contestants. The selection will be made based on mod content, complexity, quality, idea, originality, and the mod page design and quality. The selection will represent an average of the votes of all team members.

After the pick is done, we will make a public announcement here on the website and on our social channels. Then you will be able to vote for your favorite mod and the community voting will select the top 3 contestants and the winner amongst them.

Rewards

Let's remember the rewards for the ModJam winners that CurseForge will kindly provide as the sponsor of this event. The top 3 contestants (individual or teams; in the case of a team, the reward is split depending on how the team agrees internally) will get the following rewards:

  • 1st place - 1000 USD in CurseForge points + CurseForge merch
  • 2nd place - 500 USD in CurseForge points + CurseForge merch
  • 3rd place - 250 USD in CurseForge points + CurseForge merch

Try the mods out!

While we are working to rate all the submitted mods, you are welcome to try out all the mods out! Below you can find the list of all the valid submissions that will be part of the selection for the top 5 mods:

Let us know your thoughts, concerns, and reviews about the contestants in the comments below or on the mod pages! Have fun trying them out :)

From when I have made projects I noticed that weekends are often a no-go for reviews, pretty sure they take them off. which is my Friday and Saturday but maybe others on Saturday and Sunday. Normally though under normal conditions mods are approved on Sunday to Monday after that. But I can imagine many people where submitting their mods on top of the regular mods being posted too. But still bites that this happened.

There are a lot of interesting mods here, I wish good luck and patience to all participants!

Nice! I saw that my mod "Forest Friends" is also participating in the contest! Neat!

My mod (maxon's expansion) was fairly rushed since all of my files for it got corrupted and I had to start from scratch in a two day window. At least there's next time :/

It was a mistake not to include a theme for the modjam. I know the owner of one of the mods there who is competing with a mod that had already been produced for a while and he just redid the workspace using the old project. I hope next time there will be a theme.

I agree about the problem with lack of a theme. This has a lot more problems, both in terms of checking the honesty of the participants, and in general in terms of the logic of evaluating everything (how valid is it to compare a cool mechanical crab and a cool spell system to each other in the first place). Like, I saw the reason for no theme: previous ecology-themed contest spawned too many similar mods. But this problem is not because of the presence of the theme, but because the topic of ecology itself is quite scarce for a variety of ideas for mods. Some sort of larger theme for a shorter period of time would be much better. Even something crazy or random like “2 weeks to make Space Aliens mods challenge” would make sense and result into many creative ideas, from unusual dimension-exploration mods to martian invasions, etc. It will reduce the chance of pre-made mods and be overall more 'correct' for a modding contest imo.
