Sep 4, 2022 at 18:02 comment added Will Orrick Continuing to more complicated cases: person 1 will sit in person 3's seat with probability 1/100, while the probability that person 1 sits in person 2's seat and person 2 then sits in person 3's seat is (1/100)(1/99). In every other case, person 3 sits in their own seat. Therefore the probability of person 3 sitting in their own seat is $1−1/100−(1/100)(1/99)=98/99$. This pattern continues.

In the 100 passenger version, person 1 will sit in person 2's seat one out of every hundred times. Hence passenger 2 will sit in their own seat with probability 99/100.
