For example, if 5 players compete and the only thing that matters is winning first place, you would certainly want to reroll even an 8. | |

I would say roll the 12 sided die if you get below 7 with the 8 sided and stop if you get a 7 or 8. This assumes expected gain as the the criterion to maximize. | |
