NPower | Launching Tech Careers. Transforming Lives.
PATHWAYS
As we move deeper into the fall season, you can feel the excitement and influx of activity at NPower during this time of year.

We are thrilled to share a few key highlights with you and celebrate together:
  • Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15–Oct 15) with our students and staff that are proud of their rich heritage and continue to inspire their community.
  • Doing our part to make our country safer during Cybersecurity Awareness Month (October) with the launch of our Skillbridge program providing Cybersecurity training to transitioning military members in Northern Virginia.
  • Hosted an incredible, high-energy evening at our 2022 NPower Gala: Inspire. Involve. Invest. where the room of 600+ guests showed up for NPower contributing over $1.9 million to support our program and a special announcement from AT&T sharing a significant gift to launch a special initiative in St. Louis and Dallas.
We look forward to ending the year strong with several upcoming moments and events including our Year End Annual Appeal Campaign, NPower graduations, and enjoying the holiday season with friends and family.

Please stay connected and engaged with the NPower community during the exciting weeks ahead.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

NPower Alumni Inspiring the Latinx Community

“As Latinx in tech we have to push ourselves harder to get noticed and always be up for a challenge. You'll never know how far you can get unless you try. Pa’lante!”

Meet Charlene Nieves

Client Support Specialist, AuditBoard
Tech Fundamentals, Spring 2020
Prior to NPower, Charlene experienced much confusion around her career path. She found clarity when she discovered NPower and started envisioning her future in tech. As a proud Latina in tech, she consistently pushes past her comfort zone from mentoring new NPower students to negotiating for a higher salary range—something she was extremely proud of.

Charlene recently joined AuditBoard as a Client Support Specialist and credits NPower for helping her discover how to showcase her value, unique skill sets, and all that she has to offer.
“...If more Hispanics in the community decide to become entrepreneurs and gain additional resources to start their own ventures, younger generations can look to community leaders as role models, thus overall economic prosperity for their family and future generations like NPower's mission.”

Meet Jorge Rosales Jr.

Manager, Communications Design, Initiative
Tech Fundamentals, Fall 2019
As an assistant manager at a local coffee shop, Jorge was struggling to find his passion. Although he tinkered with computers at a young age, even building his own gaming system, he never saw technology as a career choice. After joining NPower, he soon realized the endless possibilities a career in tech offered. During his time in the program, he would host Zoom study sessions, offer resume support, and job referrals to classmates. Jorge continues to give back to NPower through mentoring. Currently, Jorge is a Communications Design Manager at Initiative

Appointed as a New York Ambassador for the Hispanic Star during the pandemic, Jorge worked tirelessly helping families in his community gain access to the services and technology needed for remote learning and continues to find ways to impact his community today.

PARTNER & FUNDER SPOTLIGHTS

NPower's partnership with the NBA Foundation fuels the launch of promising tech careers and pathways to prosperity for Black young adults.
In December 2021, the NBA Foundation generously awarded NPower a grant in support of enrolling, training, and increasing the number of Black young adults in technology careers, with emphasis on the NPower regions of Maryland, Michigan, New York, New Jersey and Southern California. This powerful funding opportunity for NPower expands our efforts to support Black young adults looking for pathways into tech and ultimately leads to the end of generational poverty in the communities we serve.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT - NPower’s 2022 Gala: Inspire. Involve. Invest.

2022 Gala emcee, Maurice DuBois of WCBS-TV, sat down with Thomas Durian, CEO of Google Cloud, for an insightful fireside chat. The discussion had everyone's attention as he talked about his experiences leading Google Cloud, how to grow diversity in tech, and his best advice for navigating careers in technology.

Opportunity@Work’s #ThePaperCeiling

NPower is a proud partner of Opportunity@Work’s movement to tear the “paper ceiling”—the invisible barrier that comes at every turn for workers without a bachelor’s degree. Today and everyday, we aim to change the narrative around the value & potential of workers who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes (STARs), rather than through a bachelor's degree, creating more equitable opportunities for all.
This powerful movement resonates deeply with the NPower mission as we continue to support & shatter the myth that no degree equals low skill. Learn more about #TearThePaperCeiling by visiting TearThePaperCeiling.com and watching the video.
