🇯🇵🗣 Last week, the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. In a guest comment for the Handelsblatt magazine, he wrote about the Expo and the German Pavilion: “The Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, will take place next year. The German Pavilion's theme ‘Wa!’ refers to circles and the bonds between people. In Japan, ‘Wa!’ also is an exclamation of surprise. We would like to use this Expo as an opportunity to show the image of a society of the future and surprise people all over the world.” Fumio Kishida – Prime Minister of Japan 🇯🇵🗣 Letzte Woche besuchte der japanische Ministerpräsident Fumio Kishida Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz. 1️⃣ With the 2030 Agenda, the international community has set itself the ambitious goal of ending poverty in all its forms and everywhere. This is because too many people around the world live in poverty - including in Germany. In Germany, people are poor if they have less than 60 per cent of the average income at their disposal - that is currently 15.9 per cent. Even if living on a relatively low income in Germany is not the same as extreme poverty in other countries, nobody should have to live with such low resources for a long period of time, because: People on low incomes are observed to have lower life expectancy, poorer educational success, and less professional and social participation. The German government is taking measures against poverty and extreme poverty worldwide. In Deutschland sind Menschen arm, wenn sie weniger als 60 Prozent des Durchschnittseinkommens zur Verfügung haben – das sind derzeit 15,9 Prozent. Auch wenn ein Leben mit relativ niedrigem Einkommen in Deutschland nicht dasselbe ist wie die extreme Armut in anderen Ländern, so sollte doch niemand über einen längeren Zeitraum mit so geringen Mitteln leben müssen, denn: Bei Menschen mit niedrigem Einkommen beobachtet man eine geringere Lebenserwartung, schlechtere Bildungserfolge und weniger berufliche und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe. Die Bundesregierung ergreift weltweit Maßnahmen gegen Armut und extreme Armut. 🍃 Everyone is focussing on the SDGs - including Germany? After the United Nations stepped up its commitment to sustainable development from 1992 and adopted Agenda 21 in Rio de Janeiro, Germany adopted its first sustainability strategy in 2002. The German Sustainable Development Strategy is also the basis for implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in Germany.   On 10 March 2021, the Federal Cabinet adopted the further development of the German Sustainable Development Strategy. It focuses on six major areas of transformation in which there is a greater need for action: 1️⃣ Human well-being and capabilities 2️⃣ social justice 3️⃣ Energy transition and climate protection, circular economy 4️⃣ Sustainable construction and transport transition 5️⃣ Sustainable agricultural and food systems 6️⃣ a pollution-free environment.   The German Sustainable Development Strategy is comprehensive and not exhaustive in terms of content. It is the basis for political reforms as well as for changing the behaviour of companies and consumers. Nachdem sich die Vereinten Nationen ab 1992 verstärkt für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung einsetzten und in Rio de Janeiro die Agenda 21 verabschiedet hatten, beschloss Deutschland 2002 erstmals eine Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie. Auch die Grundlage der Umsetzung der 17 Nachhaltigkeitsziele in Deutschland ist die Deutsche Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie. Am 10. März 2021 beschloss das Bundeskabinett die Weiterentwicklung der deutschen Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie. Schwerpunkte sind sechs große Transformationsbereiche, in denen noch größerer Handlungsbedarf besteht: 1️⃣ Menschliches Wohlbefinden und Fähigkeiten 2️⃣ soziale Gerechtigkeit 3️⃣ Energiewende und Klimaschutz, Kreislaufwirtschaft 4️⃣ Nachhaltiges Bauen und Verkehrswende 5️⃣ nachhaltige Agrar- und Ernährungssysteme 6️⃣ schadstofffreie Umwelt. Die Deutsche Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie ist inhaltlich umfassend und nicht abschließend angelegt. Sie ist Grundlage für politische Reformen wie auch für ein verändertes Verhalten von Unternehmen und Verbraucherinnen und Verbraucher. 🍃 Almost everyone knows the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals - but does anyone know their history?   In 1992, the United Nations decided to shift their focus to sustainable development. In Rio de Janeiro, they adopted a global action programme, Agenda 21, which more than 170 countries signed in order to implement it nationally with the participation of society and business.   In 2015, the member states of the United Nations then agreed on the 2030 Agenda for socially, economically, and ecologically sustainable development. The 2030 Agenda is a roadmap for the future that aims to enable people around the world to live in dignity while protecting the natural foundations of life in the long term. It defines 17 global sustainability goals, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).   At the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit in New York on 18 and 19 September 2023, the progress made towards achieving the 17 SDGs was reviewed. The 193 member states of the United Nations unanimously published a political declaration reaffirming the global sustainability goals and renewing their commitment to the 2030 Agenda.   🍃 Die Nachhaltigkeitsziele der Vereinten Nationen kennt fast jede(r) – aber ihre Geschichte auch? 1992 beschlossen die Vereinten Nationen einen neuen Schwerpunkt: nachhaltige Entwicklung. In Rio de Janeiro verabschiedeten sie ein globales Aktionsprogramm, die Agenda 21. Mehr als 170 Staaten unterzeichneten die Agenda, um sie national unter Beteiligung von Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft umzusetzen. 2015 einigten sich die Mitgliedsstaaten der Vereinten Nationen dann auf die Agenda 2030 für eine sozial, wirtschaftlich und ökologisch nachhaltige Entwicklung. Die Agenda ist ein Fahrplan für die Zukunft, mit dem weltweit ein menschenwürdiges Leben ermöglicht und gleichzeitig die natürlichen Lebensgrundlagen dauerhaft geschützt werden sollen. In ihr wurden 17 globale Nachhaltigkeitsziele, die Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), definiert. Bei dem Nachhaltigkeitsgipfel der Vereinten Nationen am 18. und 19. September 2023 in New York wurde überprüft, wie weit man auf dem Weg zum Erreichen der 17 SDGs gekommen ist. 💬 Last week, Christian Tschersich from LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture) and Julian Lienhard from str.ucture GmbH gave an interesting lecture at the Universität Kassel on the German Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, with a particular focus on its sustainable architecture. The German Pavilion perfectly combines the theme of the pavilion, circular economy, with its architecture: one look at the circular wooden structures is enough to grasp the leitmotif of circularity. The pavilion impressively demonstrates the influence that architecture and urban planning can have on sustainability and circularity. We are delighted with the great interest and the large number of participants in this inspiring event.   💬 Letzte Woche hielten Christian Tschersich von LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture) und Julian Lienhard von str.ucture GmbH einen interessanten Vortrag an der Universität Kassel über den Deutschen Pavillon auf der Expo 2025 Osaka. Besonderes Augenmerk legten die beiden natürlich auf die nachhaltige Architektur. Der Deutsche Pavillon vereint das Thema des Pavillons, #Kreislaufwirtschaft, perfekt mit seiner Architektur: Ein Blick auf die kreisförmigen Baukörper aus Holz genügt, um das Leitmotiv der Zirkularität zu erfassen. Der Pavillon zeigt eindrucksvoll, welchen Einfluss Architektur und Städtebau auf Nachhaltigkeit und Zirkularität haben können. 🔍 On the second day of the #IPM in Nara, #breakout sessions were on the agenda. Participants exchanged views on the different types of pavilions and discussed exhibition and interior works as well as follow-ups from the plenary sessions. These detailed discussions are crucial for the success of #Expo2025.   🔍 Am zweiten Tag des IPM in Nara standen die Breakout-Sessions auf dem Programm. Die Teilnehmer tauschten sich zu den verschiedenen Pavillon-Typen aus und diskutierten die Ausstellungen und Bauarbeiten in den Innenräumen sowie Follow-ups aus den Plenarsitzungen. It is exciting to see how all participants are collaborating to create a successful Expo 2025.
