Sosteneo Infrastructure Partners, part of the Generali Investments ecosystem, has held financial close on the agreement with Enel Group through its subsidiary Enel Italia for the acquisition on behalf of clients of 49% of the share capital of Enel Libra Flexsys. Enel Libra Flexsys is a major portfolio of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects and Open-Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) projects that will directly support Italy's energy transition. To support Sosteneo’s acquisition, mezzanine financing is being provided by CPP Investments | Investissements RPC through CPPIB Credit Investments Inc. For the senior financing, Crédit Agricole CIB acted as Global Coordinator and Bookrunner, ING as Bookrunner and Agent, and BNP Paribas as Bookrunner and Account Bank in a club of Mandated Lead Arrangers, Hedging Banks and Lenders including, alongside the three banks, also BBVA, Bayerische Landesbank, CaixaBank, Societe Generale and SMBC Bank EU AG (Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation – SMBC Group), with Bank of China and the Italian National Promotional Institution, CDP Cassa Depositi e Prestiti acting as Mandated Lead Arrangers and Lenders. Ivor Frischknecht, Chris Twomey and Jai Kant from Sosteneo Infrastructure Partners put on their hard hats yesterday to visit one of our battery storage projects, Koorangie Energy Storage System (KESS). KESS will help to integrate additional renewable generation in the Murray River region of Victoria, Australia. Construction is underway, captured beautifully in this video from our partner, Edify Energy. With revenues secured through long-term agreements with Shell Energy Australia and Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), KESS is well-aligned with our objective of delivering stable commercial returns to clients whilst making an active contribution to the decarbonisation of the energy system. #energystorage #infrastructure #renewables

And the reason for the visit? Spain stands out for its dual significance to our growth strategy: 1. Investment destination - Spain is poised to surpass all major European economies by generating over 50% of its electricity from renewable sources and this has been accompanied by a boom in corporate renewable energy Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), which presents an interesting market opportunity. 2. Source of capital - conversations with local institutions reaffirmed that energy transition infrastructure remains a key focus for strategic asset allocations. There was a strong emphasis on the word “infrastructure”, meaning investments capable of delivering stable, predictable cash flows through contracted revenues, which aligns with our own investment philosophy. Sosteneo Infrastructure Partners, part of the Generali Investments ecosystem, has signed an agreement with Enel Group through its subsidiary Enel Italia for the acquisition on behalf of clients of 49% of the share capital of Enel Libra Flexsys. Enel Libra Flexsys was established for the development and management of a major portfolio of energy transition infrastructure in Italy, composed of 23 battery energy storage system (BESS) projects with a total capacity of 1.7GW and 3 Open-Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) projects with a total capacity of 0.9GW. The partnership with Enel represents a major investment in critical new infrastructure for the energy transition in Italy and is a landmark transaction on behalf of Sosteneo’s clients. The BESS and OCGT projects will provide flexibility and strength to the grid that is vital for the integration of more renewable generation into Italy’s energy system. The Sosteneo Infrastructure Partners-backed hydrogen project, Puglia Green Hydrogen Valley, has been approved by the European Commission for funding through the Hy2Infra Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI), a strategic funding scheme designed to support the development of hydrogen infrastructure in Europe. Puglia Green Hydrogen Valley represents one of the first initiatives in Europe for the large-scale production of green hydrogen, through the construction of two plants in Italy with a total electrolysis capacity of 160 MW. The objective is to produce green hydrogen for use in decarbonising the steel-making process at several Italian steel mills. Sosteneo previously announced its entry into the project on behalf of clients in November 2023, joining co-shareholders including Edison and Saipem. 🔌 We’ve connected Sosteneo Infrastructure Partners’ 100MWh #battery project to the #electricity transmission network at our Richborough substation in Kent. 🔋 Developed by Pacific Green, the battery is now live and supporting Britain’s #cleanenergy transition, storing and releasing green energy to power homes and businesses. ⚡️ It’s on the site of a former coal power station, and next door to where our Nemo Link interconnector with Belgium connects into the grid.
