maxon UK & Ireland has celebrated 25 years in business. At the end of June event at Tylney Hall in Hook, Berkshire, the team celebrated along with maxon’s global management. Dr. Karl-Walter Braun, main shareholder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of maxon Group, along with company CEO, Eugen Elmiger, joined the maxon UK & Ireland team, and their families, for a day of fun including mini golf, axe throwing, giant garden games, and a BBQ. What does this landmark mean for maxon’s customers? maxon’s first DC motor was developed in 1969 in Switzerland. Following the creation of engineering centres all around the world, maxon UK & Ireland was established in 1999. Since then, this development has given UK and Ireland-based engineers continual access to expertise in drive system specification and design. Today, maxon UK & Ireland supports engineering design teams in DC drive system technology development, covering sectors such as aerospace, automotive, surgical robotics, and industrial automation. The support of maxon's global management at the UK event, in what remains a privately-owned enterprise, shows the commitment maxon has, at its most senior level, to its UK & Ireland customer base. #drivenbymaxon

maxon has released the latest sustainability report. It includes a lot of numbers, but each number represents a complex story. 🔢 Exactly 194 quantitative data/figures were collected and offset with 48 greenhouse gas factors in order to convert the data into tonnes of CO2 for the 2023 greenhouse gas balance. 🕵♂️ Behind each figure are a large number of individual data points such as monthly utility bills, accounts payable, flight bookings (it makes a difference, for example, whether you fly economy, business or first) or mileage statements of vehicles. ❓ For example, how do we proceed to determine the emissions from the electricity purchased from the electricity company? ⬇ First, we need the information on the amount of electricity purchased, the electricity supplier and the purchased electricity product. ⬇ Then we try to determine the specific electricity mix in order to define the appropriate emission factor. Or we ask the electricity company about the emission factors of the purchased electricity. ⬇ "Renewable" is not enough as an indication – you have to know whether solar, water or wind. And a run-of-river power plant is different from a pumped storage power plant. These details are not always known. ⬇ It is therefore important to check in each case which estimates, assumptions or even generic emission factors you continue to work with and where the point has been reached that you cannot provide a reliable figure. ⬇ This would be the process for calculating emissions from electricity in Scope 2 (indirect emissions from the use of purchased energy). In addition, there is a calculation of the fuel- and energy-related emissions from electricity procurement in Scope 3 (indirect emissions that are outside of the companies direct control).   💪 As you can see, this is a lot of work. Thanks to the team from BHP - Brugger und Partner AG for supporting us with their know-how on this ongoing journey. May we introduce you to one of our maxon engineers - Nataliia Mysak? Nataliia is an engineer at maxon's SpaceLab, and her journey into this field is remarkable. She was raised and educated in Ukraine. However, the onset of war forced her to flee her homeland with her daughter. In Switzerland, she began anew, and her role at maxon has become a significant part of her life. Read more about Nataliias inspring story here: https://lnkd.in/e5rQegUc

At maxon HQ in Switzerland, we always welcome guests with open arms. However, occasionally, guests bring surprises of their own. Today we welcomed members of the Swiss branch of the The Society of Experimental Test Pilots. We gave them a tour around our facilities and introduced them to the world of maxon. What they brought with them was, naturally, a spectacle in the skies: The pilots of the Swiss Air Force's PC-7 Team showcased their aerial prowess directly above the maxon area, delighting numerous onlookers. Speaking about aerospace: It's an area we know well, because maxon drives are a reliable technology, be it in airplanes, power drones, satellites or rovers on Mars. Want to know more? maxon looks back on a challenging fiscal year 2023, as the annual financial report shows. Sales in 2023 amounted to CHF 664.4 million (compared to CHF 707.7 million in 2022). Various reasons led to this result, but the main reason was currency losses, which cost maxon more than CHF 35 million. However, maxon believes in the future and hence increased spending on research in 2023 to CHF 53.6 million (from CHF 51.5 million in 2022). Despite the difficult year, maxon’s management is satisfied with the present results. Eugen Elmiger, CEO of maxon Group (left in the picture), says: “Despite the challenging economic environment and the decline in sales, maxon remains determined to invest in the future. Our increased investment in research and development underlines our commitment to driving innovation and strengthening our market position.” Dr. Karl-Walter Braun, main shareholder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of maxon Group (right in the picture), says of the result: “The average growth of the last 5 years is still around plus 4 percent per year. A great achievement in these crisis years!” Want to know more? You can find our latest media release here: https://lnkd.in/duTy65Jv
