Our world is made of an invisible web. Loss of species weakens this web & can alter an entire ecosystem, & this affects us too. Take pollinators for example. Without them, most of our food wouldn't exist. FAO's work to protect #Biodiversity👉 https://bit.ly/3Fkqo1s

The Green Climate Fund has approved USD 52 million to support a FAO-led project in Malawi aimed at helping the country cope with the devastating effects of climate change and boosting long-term food security. The project, Ecosystems-based Adaptation for Resilient Watersheds and Communities in Malawi, is set to benefit nearly 575 000 vulnerable people in rural communities over six years. It will deliver urgently needed investments in adaptation and resilience in Malawi. "We welcome the GCF Board’s approval and look forward to working with our Malawi counterparts to help transform Malawi’s agriculture sector through impactful, holistic ecosystem-based climate actions," said FAO Deputy Director-General Maria Helena Semedo. The 2024 edition of the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World #SOFI2024 report, to be launched on July 24, takes a deep dive into salient themes regarding financing for development, in particular financing for food security and nutrition to meet the targets of #SDG2, with the aim of creating better identifying opportunities, strengthening accountability and traceability, and ultimately improving financing productivity. Some aspects and findings of the United Nations flagship report were highlighted today at the Special Event on Financing to End Hunger, Food Insecurity and Malnutrition in All its Forms, within the United Nations Economic and Social Council High-Level Political Forum in New York. Speaking through a video message, FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, noted that more, better-targeted and less risk-averse financing is needed to move the world closer to eradicating hunger. Growing up on a farm in Indiana and now serving at FAO, I worry that farmers around the world are increasingly becoming the "most vulnerable". Conflict and the climate crisis make it harder to grow food, tend animals and provide for their families. Prioritizing farmers is something that I think about day and night… all the time. If we can help people grow small amounts of vegetables, keep a few animals on their farm or in their village, we have a better opportunity at building resilience in the midst of an emergency/crisis response. We need to get seeds, fertilizers, animal vaccines, animal nutrition and more supplies in the hands of farmers. How do we collectively bring the world's attention to the people who are most affected by high and unprecedented levels of acute food insecurity – to farmers, fisher men and women, livestock herders? By telling their story…! Thank you Melissa Fleming for providing the platform to share what keeps me #AwakeAtNight. Tune in ... 📻 https://bit.ly/32NK3oP
