Consumers want products that offer additional benefits like anti-aging, hydration, and vitamin C, and they are willing to pay more for these features. Additionally, they remain concerned about skin damage and sunburn and have anxiety about being in the sun. Although we are making progress with more people choosing to wear sunscreen, we are not at the finish line. Sharon Personal Care attended the 11th Annual International Conference for Applied Hair Science by TRI Princeton. Over two days, we heard from 24 speakers, gaining insights into hair/scalp research. Key takeaways included: #ScienceSells: Celebrity endorsements are out; consumers want to know the chemist behind their favorite brand and now demand clinical evidence to back up claims. #WashingFrequency: Contrary to popular belief, washing hair five times a week was shown to improve both hair and scalp health. #UnderstandingDamage: Hair damage often results from multiple factors like coloring, heat styling, and sun exposure combined, which is more detrimental than previously thought. #ScalpHealth: Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. Scalp skin is different than the skin on other parts of the body and requires different care. These are a few of the insights discussed and highlight the importance of scientific data in hair care and the evolving understanding of hair/scalp health.
