Hmm....we do need the link in the header to create continuity between the .org and the .com, since .com is new and most existing traffic goes to .org, but a lot of that would go to .com if they knew about it. We could make the search bar collapsed by default. My sense is that we may be changing this as part of the IA in a couple of weeks, but we should get this in now. @fk thoughts on the best way to do this? |

I think we can not do any better! I think what @calcsam did here works really well — it keeps external links grouped, and solves all our needs as outlined in #5579 (comment). @m-allanson and me chatted about this briefly — he was concerned with the search box overlapping the diagonal background on the homepage, which we both agreed is a totally OK poison to pick.
That said, a dedicated section — on the homepage, in the yet non-existing footer or above it — would come with the benefit of having enough space to explain .com a little more in-depth.
Another idea might be to add a banner at the top of the screen (similar to what we did to advertise the workshops) pointing to the new .com link—for a limited time—to increase awareness.
