The Wii is a seventh generation television console, and is Nintendo's first home console to feature a built-in shop. Use this tag if the question is about Wii's operating system, hardware, or a Wii-only game feature. You can also use this tag for the Wii Family Edition or Wii Mini, but DO NOT use for the Wii U; use the [wii-u] tag instead.

The Nintendo Wii is a seventh generation console and the fifth console released by Nintendo. First released on 19 November 2006, it primarily competed with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3.

A distinguishing feature of the console is its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a handheld pointing device and detects movement in three dimensions.

There is an add on Wii Motion Plus which allows more accurate motion capture and increasing numbers of games are making use of it's features.

Another unique feature of the Wii is being able to play all Gamecube games, and being able to play select games from all previous Nintendo and certain non-Nintendo consoles through it's Virtual Console Service.
