Accredited once, accepted everywhere
À propos
The European co-operation for Accreditation (EA) is an association of national accreditation bodies in Europe officially recognized by their national Governments to assess and accredit organizations that carry out conformity assessment services. EA was established in 1997 and appointed as the body responsible for the European Accreditation Infrastructure, according to the Regulation (EC) No 765/2008 which provides the legal basis for accreditation in Europe. The accreditation process determines the technical competence and integrity of organizations that offer testing, examination, validation and verification, inspection, calibration, certification, and proficiency testing provision services (collectively known as conformity assessment). Accreditation operates in the public interest across all market sectors, providing a transparent and impartial assessment of these services against internationally recognized standards and other requirements. EA facilitates acceptance of accredited certificates and reports on the European and global markets through its Multilateral Agreement (EA MLA). The EA MLA is based on a peer evaluation process, which is overseen by the European Commission in cooperation with the Member States. Accreditation bodies are evaluated against Regulation (EC) No 765/2008, the international standard ISO/IEC 17011, and other relevant standards and related criteria. The EA MLA provides a framework to realize the objective “Accredited once, accepted everywhere”, through a network of conformity assessment bodies that are competent within their scope of accreditation to issue statements of conformity for products and services, thereby reducing costs, adding value to business and consumers, and contributing to the freedom of trade by eliminating technical barriers. The EA MLA is recognized at the international level by ILAC and IAF. These recognitions give international recognition to accreditation delivered by the EA MLA signatory members of ILAC/IAF.

The theme for World Accreditation Day (WAD) 2024 is "Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future." As the world evolves quickly, it often outstrips standards’ development. Establishing a standard requires thorough analysis and thoughtful consideration. Consequently, standards, accreditation, and conformity assessments are frequently perceived as obstacles to progress. However, progress without standards is unattainable. New technologies invariably introduce new threats and governance challenges, necessitating robust standards to manage them effectively. In today's rapidly changing and dynamic business landscape, accreditation and other elements of the quality infrastructure aim to stay agile and adaptable. They strive to maintain high standards in their roles of defining and assessing compliance. The proven competencies of Conformity Assessment Bodies can be quickly deployed to tackle upcoming challenges, based on a solid approach and experience, and existing standards can be revised to cover new developments. In this context, it becomes evident that standards and accreditation are reactive measures and proactive tools. They enable businesses and industries to navigate complexities and ensure that innovation is safe and sustainable. Read the article: https://lnkd.in/eND66n-y

🌍🍽️ Celebrating World Food Safety Day 🌿✨ Today, we reflect on the growing importance of organic farming and its significant role in promoting sustainable food systems. Over the past decade, organic farming has not only met the specific consumer demand for sustainable products but has also contributed to environmental protection and improved animal welfare. The European Union has taken significant strides in this area with Regulation (EU) 2018/848, which governs organic farming across all stages of production, from seeds to final products. This regulation ensures that every aspect of organic production, including aquaculture and yeast, meets applicable standards, guaranteeing food safety and quality. The European Commission has further detailed secondary acts to enhance organic production rules, inspection methods, and certification processes. These acts ensure that organic products, whether produced within the EU or imported, comply with the highest standards. EA also revised its policies, such as the EA-3/12 EA Policy for the Accreditation of Organic Production Certification, to align with these updated regulations. These revisions, influenced by stakeholder feedback, aim to streamline the accreditation process and enhance the overall integrity of organic certifications. As we celebrate World Food Safety Day, let’s acknowledge the collaborative efforts of regulatory bodies, accreditation agencies, and the organic farming community in ensuring the highest standards of food safety and sustainability. #WorldFoodSafetyDay #FoodSafety #PrepareForTheUnexpected #OrganicFarming #Sustainability #EURegulations #Accreditation #SustainableAgriculture
