Maureen Logghe, EA President, participated in the launch of the project for the digitalization of accreditation and conformity assessment systems in West Africa, on July 8 and 9, 2024 in Abidjan (Ivory Coast), organised by the West African Accreditation System (SOAC). This unique "3-in-1" format included the celebration of World Accreditation Day, the launch of the "Digitalization of Accreditation and Conformity Assessment Systems in West Africa" project, and the presentation of the new Ivorian Association of Conformity Assessment Bodies (AI-OEC). These events mark significant milestones in advancing accreditation and conformity assessment in the region. EA held a MAC Refresher Training for Team Members authorized in Calibration (EN ISO/IEC 17025), Reference Material Producers (EN ISO/IEC 17034), and Biobanking (EN ISO 20387:2018) on 5-6 June 2024 in Brussels, Belgium. Eleven participants from National Accreditation Bodies (NABs) participated in the training led by Sergio Guzzi (ACCREDIA, the Italian NAB), Martina Bednarova (CAI, the Czech NAB), Zacharias Ioannidis (ESYD, the Greek NAB), and Simon Herren (SAS, the Swiss NAB). ⬇ Link to the article in the comments section ⬇

Maureen Logghe, the EA President, joined SA, the Slovenian National Accreditation Body, for their 25th annual Accreditation Day event on June 12, 2024. This year, SA celebrated a quarter-century of excellence in accreditation alongside World Accreditation Day (WAD). The event provided new information regarding various accreditation fields and topics related to the WAD theme: Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future. #AccreditationDay2024

On June 20, 2024, 85 delegates from National Accreditation Bodies and National Cybersecurity Certification Agencies participated in an online workshop on the EU Cybersecurity Act and the Implementing Regulation on the EU Common Criteria (EU CC) scheme. Key presentations included: - Ingrid Lauringson from the European Commission (DG CONNECT), discussed the EU Cybersecurity Certification Framework as outlined in Regulation (EU) 2019/881 (Cybersecurity Act) and the upcoming Cyber Resilience Act. - philippe blot from the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), introduced the Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/482 on the EU CC scheme and the State-of-the-Art documents on accreditation of Certification Bodies and ITSEFs (laboratories). - Rosalina Porres from the National Accreditation Body of Spain (Entidad Nacional de Acreditación - ENAC), who shared practical insights on implementing the EUCC State-of-the-Art documents. ⬇ Find the link to download the presentations and watch the workshop in the comments.

The theme for World Accreditation Day (WAD) 2024 is "Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future." As the world evolves quickly, it often outstrips standards’ development. Establishing a standard requires thorough analysis and thoughtful consideration. Consequently, standards, accreditation, and conformity assessments are frequently perceived as obstacles to progress. However, progress without standards is unattainable. New technologies invariably introduce new threats and governance challenges, necessitating robust standards to manage them effectively. In today's rapidly changing and dynamic business landscape, accreditation and other elements of the quality infrastructure aim to stay agile and adaptable. They strive to maintain high standards in their roles of defining and assessing compliance. The proven competencies of Conformity Assessment Bodies can be quickly deployed to tackle upcoming challenges, based on a solid approach and experience, and existing standards can be revised to cover new developments. In this context, it becomes evident that standards and accreditation are reactive measures and proactive tools. 🌍🍽️ Celebrating World Food Safety Day 🌿✨ Today, we reflect on the growing importance of organic farming and its significant role in promoting sustainable food systems. Over the past decade, organic farming has not only met the specific consumer demand for sustainable products but has also contributed to environmental protection and improved animal welfare. The European Union has taken significant strides in this area with Regulation (EU) 2018/848, which governs organic farming across all stages of production, from seeds to final products. This regulation ensures that every aspect of organic production, including aquaculture and yeast, meets applicable standards, guaranteeing food safety and quality. The European Commission has further detailed secondary acts to enhance organic production rules, inspection methods, and certification processes. These acts ensure that organic products, whether produced within the EU or imported, comply with the highest standards. EA also revised its policies, such as the EA-3/12 EA Policy for the Accreditation of Organic Production Certification, to align with these updated regulations. These revisions, influenced by stakeholder feedback, aim to streamline the accreditation process and enhance the overall integrity of organic certifications.
