You may want to check that out:
Press Esc when the popup appears, suggesting a strong password.
This removes the popup and removes the 'strong password' in the text field.
Alternative when no popup is shown:
Select the yellow password suggestion in the field, then press esc (was needed for this very forum).
Tested on Sonoma and Catalina on 3 different websites. So this feature has been already there since quite a while. I just found this as of today.
