Yes I could see Singapore as a place to take a new engine, but I have the feeling they're going to need a new one well before 22 September.

I presume they will not do so for Austria this week since it is a "Home Race", but if the engine currently in the car can handle the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone, I could see them taking their first mulligan at Hungary so they have a good engine for Spa, Zandvoort and Baku before they replace again in Singapore.

Toto is spouting again today that “He will take his time on Antonelli.”

No commitments from Carlos. Newey relaxing on vacation not committing….

It appears Ricciardo is gone...

I believe Marko is not a fan of Daniel and I am sure he would prefer to not let Liam escape the family, but he does not seem to have anywhere near the influence in the driver decisions at Red Bull and VCARB that he used to and it has been reported that Horner is firmly in Daniel's corner.

So color me skeptical for the time being about Daniel leaving at the end of the year.

I think so as well. And so what, Marko got a Le Mans victory in an experimental car (the magnesium frame 917-053).

The same guy who was to be testing ABS in a 917 then said, oh, I turned it off… not a fan of the guy.

Perez being a half-second slower than Max is a real problem now with the McLarens, Mercedes and Ferraris being less than a half second slower. In general, a half-second is not terrible, but this is not 2022 or 2023 anymore when the RB18 and RB19 were a second a lap faster than every other car.

SQ3 a bit of a shambles due to everyone waiting till the absolute last moment. LeClerc did not post a time as his engine failed in the pits so by the time he got it re-started he ran out of time.

Max on pole, but by less than a tenth to Norris. Could be a real race tomorrow for the sprint.

Ferrari Anti-Stall in full effect with Charles.
Ctrl-Alt-Delete once again….

I’m not sure how much Max was pushing. I was surprised he went out on new softs for Q3.

Each team should have 30 sec stop and go's in the race, as well as $1m fines per car for the unsporting conduct in SQ3..

Handful of things here:
1. I hate to say it but, Lando, Sainz, and LeClerc are, IMHO, three of the most inconsistent drivers on the grid.

2. All the sprint does is show us pretty much what is going to happen tomorrow. We don't really get any extra "racing" per se just more parade laps with only an ounce or two of excitement. Max had a 4 second lead after 23 laps...

3. Qualifying after the sprint is almost anti-climactic.

The MCL38 is the equal of the RB20, but Lando and Oscar are not the equal of Max which is why Max keeps winning.

Oscar needs consistency. I think Max is in Lando's Head right now.

Not even close for Quali with Max on another level almost a half-second clear of the rest of the field.

The Team is sooo good at delivering exactly what Max requests as well. It's extremely impressive to observe even if it detracts from some competition.

Give Lando a consistently good car and he’ll build the experience of managing it. Max wasn’t always as good as he is now and it came with the experience of having a car challenging for wins which is something that is new to the McLaren drivers. They’re having a good season and it’ll come.

FIA cashing some checks today...

  1. Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team fined €5,000 for an "unsafe release" of Lewis from his garage during qualifying.
  2. Yuki Tsunoda fined €40,000 (with €20,000 suspended) for a breach of the International Sporting Code when he called Zhou Guanyu a "retard" for blocking him while queuing to leave pit row during Qualifying.
  3. McLaren forfeits their €2,000 deposit when their protest that Oscar Piastri had not exceeded track limits was rejected because their paperwork was not in order and they complained to the wrong officer.
