I don't know if this is the correct StackExchange site to post this, let me know if I'm wrong. :)

I'm from Spain, I've studied software development (Java), not a college degree, in Spain is known as "Ciclo Formativo de Grado Superior" which is a 2000 hours high course, something like a middle step between highschool and university (EQF level 5) and I've now been working as a Java and Android developer for a little more than a year.

I've heard about and know many people who migrated to Switzerland with almost no studies at all to work as construction workers or similar jobs that require no specialization.

My question is, where do I even start to find a job in Switzerland as a programmer without any kind of contact that could help me out? Is there any job portal that foreigners commonly use? I know that nowadays it's difficult to find a job as a programmer even in your own country, but would anyone have any advice to give?

  • What has your own research identified so far? For example, searching find a job as a programmer in Switzerland would likely be a good place to start

  • Might this question be a better fit for Workplace Stack Exchange? A lot of the legal issues usually covered on Expatriates disappear if you are a Spanish citizen, and others are much simplified. What is left is a matter of company cultures, hiring practices, and fitting in. I've heard strange stories of German citizens struggling to fit into a Swiss tenement block with Swiss neighbours ...
