European VC investments decreased in 2023 to reach pre-pandemic levels. There was a decline of over 55% from the record-breaking year of 2021 and the total investment was $45 billion, down from $82 billion in 2022. However, the market imbalance, characterized by more available capital than Series A-ready companies, offers an opportunity for well-prepared startups with strong metrics to attract investment, which is a positive message for promising companies looking to fundraise now.
