How Long Is a Newbie a Newbie?

[edit source]

This Participant would wish to claim the Prerogatives of the Newcomer for a long as it might be possible for him to do so.

Of course, he realizes that eventually he will be expected to conform to that which is expected of the Seasoned Participant; but he would certainly wish to see that culture of thoughtful diplomatic honesty of which Jimbo Wales spoke in the Quotation on the Page: "Everyone at Wikiversity is a newcomer. We are all exploring how to use wiki technology in support of education. We need a 'culture of thoughtful, diplomatic honesty.... Diplomacy consists of combining honesty and politeness.'" maintained forever.

And, he would wish that Wikiversity would also forever continue to "[G]ive human thoughtfulness and judgment a chance to compete with slavish devotion to rules" as JWSchmidt suggested that it should do in his Comment on 2007-0313 (March 13, 2007) on the Proposed Policy "Ignore All Rules" Discussion Page.

But, the question still arises for This Participant, How long is a Newbie a Newbie? How might one begin to know that he has begun the metamorphosis into Seasoned Participant?

Perhaps Butterfly-like, the Wikiversitan is holometabolic, undergoing complete metamorphosis: Perhaps in Wikiversity Life there are Embryonic, Larval, Pupal and Imagal Stages. It might be useful to understand the characteristics of each Stage and the reasonable expectancies of Participants at each Stage.
