Question from Mongol Academy Hub (23:59, 25 May 2024)

[edit]

Hello, I've read an Wikipedia information about throat-singing, which gives a specific focus on Tuvan throat singing in a way that makes the Mongolian throat singing insignificant. Throat-singing or Khoomei is an indigenous Mongolian intangible art, which was originated in Mongolia. Tuvan throat singing is slightly different from Mongolian throat-singing but Mongolian throat-singing is the most classical and authentic version of Khoomei. I provide more academic references about the Mongolian throat-singing "Khoomei". Please advise me on how to suggest edits to this existing Wikipedia article about throat-singing. --Mongol Academy Hub (talk) 23:59, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Bdjaustexas (23:38, 26 May 2024)

[edit]

I just want to report an error on a page, but Wikipedia insists on me editing it. I'm not going to go that route, but I'll report the error to you if you wish to correct it.

It is merely a link on the "List of mountain peaks of New Mexico" page. It is "Wind Mountain", listed under "The 30 most topographically prominent summits of New Mexico". It is item 30 in the list.

The link will take you to Wind Mountain in Alberta, Canada. I don't think there is a Wikipedia page dedicated to this New Mexico mountain.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mountain_peaks_of_New_Mexico

Just FYI if you wish to remove or correct the link. --Bdjaustexas (talk) 23:38, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello i am new here, i have just joined wikipedia, i really want to be a prominent wikipedia editor/contributor/writer able to write articles from scratch, plus also doing all other things that can be done with wikipedia --Peaceful Ronnie (talk) 00:03, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from LucasMaple (17:55, 13 June 2024)

[edit]

Hello! What was your most common contribution when first starting? What should I look out for and focus on? --LucasMaple (talk) 17:55, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

LucasMaple I would recommend starting out with copyediting or reverting obvious vandalism, as those areas of Wikipedia are less confusing. You can also look at your newcomer homepage which can give you some good recommendations too. I personally started out with Articles for Deletion which is not as newcomer-friendly (and I had a pretty bad experience). Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 12:16, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much! LucasMaple (talk) 20:56, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ElmerFD (19:21, 13 June 2024)

[edit]

Hello! I could really use your help. i would like to add a photo box to my entry on Susanne Sedgwick and Harriet Lansing but don't know how to do that. --ElmerFD (talk) 19:21, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ElmerFD are you trying to add an infobox or thumbnail image? Instructions on how to insert them can be found with the above links. If you want to upload an image that is not already hosted on Wikimedia Commons or Wikipedia, see the Upload Wizard. Note that most pictures you can find online are copyrighted and cannot be used in Wikipedia articles. Though, I see Sedgwick is already deceased, so if you cannot find a freely licensed photo, you can still upload a non-free file (WP:FAIRUSE). Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 12:21, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have managed to edit the info box in my sandbox. Any chance I could share it with you and you could put it. on page or walk me through steps to do so? ElmerFD (talk) 17:56, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ElmerFD you can edit Susanne C. Sedgwick and add it yourself. You can insert it between the Short Description template and the first paragraph. Question: Why do you use a custom infobox instead of Template:Infobox judge? Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 23:45, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am a novice with the coding. As you can see, I didn't manage to put it in the right place. ElmerFD (talk) 20:02, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ElmerFD, as I mentioned above, infoboxes should be inserted with the appropriate infobox template, in this case Template:Infobox judge. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 12:30, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Nayeatte (20:31, 14 June 2024)

[edit]

Hello --Nayeatte (talk) 20:31, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It would be a good idea to state your question so Sungodtemple can help you out. Ternera (talk) 20:33, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Any ideas?

I'm currently working on Draft:List of closed railway lines in Japan, and I want to ask for your review on the first list (the other lists are obviously incomplete) and see if some parts are cluttered or needs improvement. Thank you. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 04:47, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AlphaBetaGamma sorry, but I don't want to spend the time to research Japanese railways right now - why don't you try submitting it? Or you could ask the folks at WP:TIJ. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 12:28, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from WHITEfieldDAISY (15:01, 21 June 2024)

[edit]

Hi, My name is Margaret Szewczenko and I wrote an article about a new proposition of translation of the James Ossuary Inscription. I would like to be able to modify the existing James Ossuary page on Wikipedia i.e. add a table which clarifies the problem and present a new translation. This table is in my article - available on Academia.edu.

Is it possible?

Margaret Szewczenko. --WHITEfieldDAISY (talk) 15:01, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gh1123 (12:14, 5 July 2024)

[edit]

Hi thanks for taking your time to inform Me about Wikipedia Please could you tell Me about how I could create an article on Wikipedia Thanks --Gh1123 (talk) 12:14, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gh1123 try taking a look at Your First Article - it's the most beginner friendly guide to creating new articles. Note that creating new articles is not beginner friendly in the first place, so I really recommend you start with simpler edits, such as those suggested at your newcomer homepage, and work from there. Question from Edenleaf (01:21, 9 July 2024)

[edit]

Hello could you tell me if there is a wki document or list setting out wikipedia's legal standpoint to make sure page contrubutors abide by online protection of a living person's reputation and/or images posted to wikipedia. Also is there any guidelines to for contributors to abide

by gender/sex based and negative body contributions to female celebrities, politicians and media women which can add to online harrassment and loss of reputation? --Edenleaf (talk) 01:21, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Edenleaf see the policy on libel and this section of the Biographies of living persons policy, which deal with considerations we need to take when writing articles about people whose reputation could be hurt. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:11, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thank you. Edenleaf (talk) 00:31, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sourcefiles88 (00:18, 10 July 2024)

[edit]

How do I create a new page? --Sourcefiles88 (talk) 00:18, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcefiles88 do you mean creating a page or an article? To create a page, you can just navigate to the page title and create the page. To create a new article, since you are a new user, you have to create a new draft page and submit it. The process is quite complicated, here are instructions that you should read carefully: Wikipedia:Your first article.
However, article creation is completely not recommended at all for people who just created an account, since there are a lot of guidelines to follow and it is easy to mess up. I would strongly recommend starting with easier edits such as those suggested at your newcomer homepage. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 11:02, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Lori Precious Artist (21:59, 10 July 2024)

[edit]

Hello! Will you be reviewing my Wiki entry for revisions and approval? I hope I did it correctly! A previous Wiki draft was under Loriprecious and this takes its place. Hopefully, that's all self evident. Many thanks! Lori --Lori Precious Artist (talk) 21:59, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lori Precious Artist please state the connection between your two accounts publicly, and in the future pick one account to move forward with. It can get confusing to other editors if you are using two accounts.
Are you using Wikipedia to promote yourself? If so you have to read the conflict of interest policy carefully. If you really want to try to write an article about yourself, read Wikipedia:Your first article in its entirety before continuing. And don't be surprised if the resulting article is promptly deleted or rejected - having a conflict of interest makes it extremely hard to write neutral articles that don't include personal knowledge. Question from Masterkai89 (11:41, 12 July 2024)

[edit]

Hello, How can I edit pictures in wikipedia in templates? --Masterkai89 (talk) 11:41, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Fibre H. Bundle (18:48, 16 July 2024)

[edit]

Hey there! Thanks for being my mentor :) I was wondering what do to with a page like Asado as i stumbled across it. It has a couple sections with no citations, but it also has plagiarism (wholesections copied verbatim from the sources, but not quoted, e.g.) and possibly other issues. I added the original research tag to the article, but i don't know if that's sufficient to indicate this page has more issues, since the plagiarism might be more important. Thanks in advance for your advice! --Fibre H. Bundle (talk) 18:48, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fibre H. Bundle plagarism is simply not allowed on Wikipedia. To handle such cases you should check out Wikipedia:Text copyright violations 101#If only part of the article is a problem. If you need any help with that, feel free to message back here and tell me where you are having trouble. It is a somewhat complicated process. Question from School70 (21:43, 18 July 2024)

[edit]

After ten minutes in the "Sandbox" and "Tutorial" I learned to my surprise that the the process required for a contribution or edit is so technical and full of hip-tech jargon and insider code, that I wonder how open to contributions Wikipedia really wants to be. As a retired lawyer, I wonder how I could explain the process to an intelligent judge, let alone a jury of simple laymen. --School70 (talk) 21:43, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
