{{TWP}} vs GWR loco classes

Sorry for giving you an evening's work! I spotted that one of the GWR classes didn't have the project banner, and then just worked my way through the (fairly large) template finding more and more! In future I'll try and add a little more detail (eg 'UK'/'locos') but I still don't want to add any quality assessments as I feel that this is better done (for consistency) by a smaller group of editors who are used to doing such things. I regard my job as to find the articles in the first place... Hence another two this evening :o)

No worries, I was just waiting for stuff to compile here. B-) Slambo (Speak) 21:19, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Drgw logo 1908-1921.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Drgw logo 1908-1921.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:29, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Categories

If you think it's necessary to tag them, there are a lot of subcategories of Category:Railway companies by year of establishment and Category:Railway companies by year of disestablishment. --NE2 20:58, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

I had noticed. I'm just getting them as I run across articles within them and not going through sequentailly yet. Slambo (Speak) 21:04, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

hello

I've not met you before...hello.

I also got confused and edited that someone had died. Re-reading the citation I used, I discovered the error and corrected it 3 minutes later. So confusion is very possible and very human. At least two others got confused the same way.

I saw an administrator write this.

Are you a cleaner at this University or a student? If so, how on earth did you get in? For one last time, he isn't dead, his son is, and this is your last warning for disruption and vandalism.

Isn't this a bit harsh? I am not mentioning the name of the administrator or the article as I don't seek punishment of someone else or even a scolding of them. I hope you are not like this. If you are a nice person, I would like to keep in contact with you. I don't have any questions now but sometimes they arise. Chergles (talk) 20:03, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

You know what caused me to write to you and not someone else? Your name, Slambo. It's almost like Steve Rambo. Steve Rambo was an army colonel who took over in a coup d'etat about 20 years ago. Chergles (talk) 20:10, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Templates you created nominated for deletion

I have nominated the Class II and III categories and templates for deletion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2008 October 15#Class II and III railroad categories and Wikipedia:Templates for deletion#Class II and III railroad templates. --NE2 03:10, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Template:TrainsWikiProject

Hi Slambo,

At the request of Bermicourt, here Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Trains#Rail transport in Germany task force - status table, I've created a set of quality and importance Categories for Rail transport in Germany, here: Category:Rail transport in Germany articles by quality and Category:Rail transport in Germany articles by importance and I've set up the links in Wikipedia 1.0 assessments. Could you tweak Template:TrainsWikiProject so that it copies the WPTrains "class" parameter across into Rail transport in Germany and to allow the assignment of "importance" for Rail transport in Germany?Pyrotec (talk) 07:32, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm about to head out for most of the day to present a model railroad clinic in Chicago, so I'll work on it tonight when I get back. Slambo (Speak) 13:22, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Done. Slambo (Speak) 01:42, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Great, Thanks very much. Out of curiosity I added a couple of DE-importance assessments, ran the bot (corrected a couple of my errors) and the tables are being populated correctly.Pyrotec (talk) 08:55, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

What do you think about this repurposing? There are a few things to decide, including whether to list private carriers (which don't have reporting marks) and how to decide which, if any, former railroads to include. I also think it would be silly to put it on Class I railroads, but included them in the list for completeness. --NE2 02:40, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

I took a brief look but haven't made a strong opinion yet. I'll try to have a more constructive response tonight. Slambo (Speak) 13:59, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. The 'railway companies est..' category seems to be filled almost exclusively with railways in the USA. Are you migrating all railway articles in there? I think if you're doing that, its worth considering creating a 'uk railway companies est...' category instead. What do you think? Parrot of Doom (talk) 21:11, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

I think you want me; I'm slowly adding U.S. companies (checking, wherever possible, with sources like the ICC valuation reports or Moody's manuals). The categories were originally created by someone else for Norwegian companies (for instance those in Category:Railway companies established in 2005). --NE2 21:44, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
I would think that all railway companies worldwide should eventually be sorted into these categories too, as I recently added First Great Western Link to Category:Railway companies established in 2004. The categories have mostly US railroads in them right now because that's what we've looked at so far. We've got to start somewhere, so we start with those we know. Slambo (Speak) 13:58, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok, would you mind if I created a UK specific category and shoved all the UK articles into there? I would suggest renaming the US category, and putting them both (and other countries) into 'Railway Companies' or similar? Parrot of Doom (talk) 14:40, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on MAY (disambiguation), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because MAY (disambiguation) is a disambiguation page that only points to a single article, or no articles at all.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting MAY (disambiguation), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself.
