You Have Been Adopted

[edit]

Tell me what you would like to learn.Paraparanormal (talk) 04:30, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two things of what I want to learn: One is to use advanced wiki markup, and two is how to create a factual article, with no opinon of mine and certainly without deletion. Maybe you can start me off by finding a few articles that haven't been done (a maximum of 2 articles) and are linked from several pages, so you can help me how to make that article. | Joe9320 of the Wikipedia Party | Contact Assembly of Jimbo Wales 07:52, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adopt-a-User notice

[edit]

Hi Joe9320. This is just a friendly notice that you're user page says that you are in need of adoption, however, it appears that you have been adopted by User:Paraparanormal. If this is the case, please help out the Adopt-a-User program by replacing {{adoptme|20081122085704}} with {{adoptee|Paraparanormal}}. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Arbitrarily0 (talk) 00:23, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Hey, I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. My messages were messing up. For creating an article you need: Factual information, links, refrences, and it has to be catagorized. Sorry for how short my response is, I need to get to a meeting. Anyother questions just message me. Paraparanormal (talk) 04:29, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

May I ask what this sandbox is for? Illogicopedia doesn't seem to have any chance of ever having a legit article on Wikipedia, as Illogicopedia has been salted. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Many ottersOne hammerHELP) 01:54, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

True. But I really can't see Illogicopedia ever having an article, especially given that its founder admitted a lack of notability in the AFD. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 20:44, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations

[edit]

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal was to gather feedback to help design a tool that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)

We are particularly interested in feedback from new editors! We want to make sure this tool meets your needs.

Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.

Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.

Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 23:27, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A few of my articles were deleted. They should tell you why it is being deleted and try to improve it. Language policy

[edit]

In a recent edit, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect other forms of English in Wikipedia articles.

The guidelines are simple. For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, just ask anyone on Wikipedia and they will help you. Thank you. --Srleffler (talk) 01:41, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: You noticed something?

[edit]

WhatPort80 isn't Encyclopedia Dramatica's successor. WhatPort80 isn't going to replace ED. It's quite the contrary actually; WhatPort80 is there to save ED. Ed has a extremely poor reputation (obviously), so advertisers don't wish to associate themselves with ED. For years now, ED has been losing money. As a result, a Safe-for-Work (SFW) version of Ed was created in order to build a more friendly reputation, so that it can attract better advertisers; this new SFW wiki is WhatPort80. WhatPort80 is there to generate money in order to run ED. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 00:48, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help with updating the Office of Police Integrity page

[edit]

Hi joe9320, I saw your post on the Wiki Project Australia saying you wanted to contribute. I'm interested in updating the Victoria Office of Police Integrity (OPI) page, as it's written like a press release and doesn't have any discussion on the numerous issues in the OPI (corruption, cover-ups of human rights abuses etc) that are regularly reported in reputable Australian media outlets. I've left a comment in the discussion page with a huge list of links and will be doing more myself. Sorry if this is the wrong area to be posting this, I'm somewhat new to editing and that's part of the reason I'm asking for help with editing the OPI page.

Proposed blackout in protest of RA 10175

[edit]

Dear Joe9320,

Greetings!

As a Filipino Wikipedian, I hope you are aware of the passage of Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on September 12, 2012. Currently, there is a discussion on the Tambayan, the noticeboard for Philippines-related topics, about a proposed blackout of the English Wikipedia in the Philippines in order to protest the passage of RA 10175, similar to the blackout against SOPA and PIPA held earlier this year. I feel that your input on the subject will definitely help in the discussion.

Please feel free to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#The Cybercrime Prevention Act, and I hope your input will help the Filipino Wikipedia community determine which is the best course of action against this law. Similarly, we hope to get as much input from as many Wikipedians as possible.

Thank you and maraming salamat po!

Kind regards,

Sky Harbor (talk) 15:38, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
