Lie

[edit]

No, everything is cake, actually. Enjoyer of World(bother me...) 01:40, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:IMAGEQUALITY

[edit]

Someone's close-up photo of ballpoint pen on wall paint isn't great here, and isn't very legible. If it meets MOS:IMAGEQUALITY's "absolutely necessary" to illustrate the concept of graffiti text on a wall, which I'm not sure it is, why aren't we using a fair use screenshot of the game? --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:14, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is legible to me, but I understand if you are adamant that it does not comply with MOS:IMAGEQUALITY. My proposal for a solution is as follows:
    • Option A: we use a fair use image as you have suggested, like this in-game screenshot. My impression though is that a free image from Commons or something in the public domain is always preferable to fair use if it can adequately illustrate the topic.
    • Option B: we use another image from Commons, like this one or this one. My only concern is that both are a bit further removed from the original context of the phrase, a series of unhinged scrawlings by desperate victims, which is what the current image is intended to convey, but it's probably not a big deal.
Let me know what you think. Haleth (talk) 02:55, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Both options work for me. Option B would illustrate the concept of the phrase as a wider meme, which is as much the focus of the article as the videogame artefact. Looking on Flickr there's also a genuinely graffitied image, which I've imported to File:The Cake is a Lie (12521108583).jpg: it doesn't match the font or arrangement from the game, but probably gives a better sense of "unhinged scrawling" than the current ballpoint-pen-on-paint image that includes the unhinged line trailing off at the end but otherwise writes it more neatly and adds bullet points. --Lord Belbury (talk) 08:11, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

The References are broken/misleading. For example, there is a XKCD comic mentioned, but the Reference link links to Reference No. 1, which has nothing to do with XKCD or comics at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.1.20.66 (talk) 08:31, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The first reference is cited because it specifically states that the revived popularity of the phrase was attributed to the XKCD comic. Linking to the comic itself would not support that there was renewed interest in the phrase because of it. If there are any other references that are broken or misleading, please give details here and I'll look into them. Schazjmd (talk) 15:20, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Regent Bakery, Portal, and The cake is a lie

[edit]

I've recently created Regent Bakery and Cafe. I'm struggling with how to expand the entry re: Portal and The cake is a lie. Both articles reference Regent, and I'm confident all three topics should be covered in each, but I'm not exactly sure what's best. Hoping editors watching this page might be interested in helping out via article improvements and talk page feedback. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:48, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
