Clean-up tag

[edit]

I removed the clean up tag and the stub after some editing and adding more detail information. The article however needs some references to the ownership. I believed the dates are incorrect.ant_ie 18:51, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The page currently (11:37 , 30 Mar 2006 UTC) says that INL owns 78% of Sky and Newscorp owns 44%. Does not compute...

Merger

[edit]
If there's no need to merge then just copy relavant info from one page to the other. WP 08:16, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm deleting the merge box as the consenus is for the staus quo.ant_ie 07:30, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ownership

[edit]

"In July 2005, SKY Network Television Limited and Independent Newspapers Limited merged the two companies into a new company, MergeCo,which was renamed Sky Network Television Limited. Independent Newspapers now own 78% of SKY Network Television. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia are the only other shareholders who own more than 5% of the company."

This paragraph is contradictory. INL no longer exists (following the merger) and therefore is not in a position to own anything. The last two sentences are out of date and should be deleted.

  • The above is reworded plus the majority of the ownership details are deleted. There are no references provided and it's been like this for nearly a year.Feel free to revert it.ant_ie 07:47, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Ant.. I've been travelling.. Reverting the ownership stuff would be good because it shows how Sky developed. There was some POV in there but most is easily verifiable via online annual reports of TVNZ and SKY. Alternatively I think I have originals going back in storage in NZ. New technology

[edit]

I've come up with a new plan which means that two (as opposed to one) out of what could be many warring parties will watch what they want without having to get separate decoders. Here are some features of the new decoder (not that SKY will consider such an outlandish plan at this point in time:) Scott Gall 03:28, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • To eliminate the risk of pointing your remote at the wrong sensor, infra-red technology will be replaced with radio waves, similar to that used in remote-controlled cars. There will be two handsets where you can change one without changing the other.
  • One side can watch the rugby while the other side watches some bullshit (bull**** if you're easily offended) documentary, or one kid can watch Spongebob Squarepants while their brother/sister watches Codename: Kids Next Door.
  • If you spend a little extra, you can get one that can cope with three or four programs being watched at the same time.

What does this have to do with the article?

New channel numbers

[edit]

This is the template for when the channel numbers change. On March 1, just copy the text below onto the article: Scott Gall 09:02, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This lists all current digital channels, including those available in UHF and Free To Air (FTA). Channel numbers for the digital service changed on March 1st.

The channel numbers changed because, in light of channels added in the 24 months leading up to the changeover (the main culprits shown in italics), they were quite quickly at the point where they couldn't fit in anything else until things were tidied up.

Information on mobile services

[edit]

SKY are now operating mobile television services (called SKY Mobile TV) on the Vodafone 3G network. Here's some stuff I already know about the new venture:

  • It's only available on Vodafone - and even if you're already on 021, you'll need a 3G phone.
  • Only NZ$2.50 per week to join - plus if you join before the 31st of March, the first three weeks are free.
  • There are 8 channels joining the party:
    • Cartoon Network
    • CNN
    • Discovery Channel
    • E!
    • MTV
    • SKY Movies
    • SKY News (tailored for the new service)
    • SKY Sport

Would a section on the new service be a good idea? Scott Gall 12:58, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sky (New Zealand)Sky Network Television – This is the correct name of the company and avoids the need of brackets for disambiguation Socks 01 (talk) 02:50, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). OhKayeSierra (talk) 12:38, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty certain this will confuse anyone living outside NZ. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:32, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:COMMONNAME, the article even starts with "Sky Network Television Limited, more commonly known as Sky" too. -Kj cheetham (talk) 12:25, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I agree now it should not be moved as it may be confusing to people outside NZ. Socks 01 (talk) 00:53, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Closing comments: See [here] for the overwritten history. Difficult to assess, I had to reread several of the comments to try to decide whether they were for or against. I hope I got it right eventually! Andrewa (talk) 01:21, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
