Crime

[edit]

Could it not be wise to add this as a section? Pine Bluff is one of the most crime-ridden cities in the USA, speaking in index offenses.

Indeed, Morgan Quitno rated Pine Bluff as the third most dangerous metropolitan area in 2006. See http://www.morganquitno.com/cit07pop.htm#METRO and Morgan Quitno#Safest_and_Most_Dangerous_Metropolitan_Areas_of_2006. So a crime section would definitely be called for. Again in 2008. I added a sentence about it, but it probably deserves at least a paragraph explaining the circumstances if anyone can find good source material.71.182.244.27 (talk) 20:39, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

City

[edit]

Wondering how to edit this U.S. City Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Cities standards might help.

A couple of notes

[edit]

As a child in Pine Bluff, we were told a story about how the Arkansas River was diverted away from 1st street. We were told that a local effort was mounted to save 1st street and the court house from falling into the river. Indeed, I have seen pictures of this in the Arkansas History classes we took in school. As it was told, after digging across the river's ox bow the state stepped in and said it was against the law to change the natural course of the Arkansas River. Mysteriously, the levee holding the water back from the newly dug river channel was blown up late one night, thus diverting the water away from the town. It is pretty obvious that what is now called Slack Water Harbor was once the Arkansas River. The question you have to ask is did the cut across the old ox bow in the river magically happen due to flooding just in time to save the town, or did someone dig it and forever alter the course of the Arkansas river. It was certainly before my time. But, it does make for a colorful, if not officially sanctioned, piece of Pine Bluff history. By: David Johnson PBHS Class of 1979

The Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce has edited this article under the user name Pbchamber. Also, this article was the subject of a television segment run on KTHV [1]. Please be wary of hagiography. Kelly Martin (talk) 00:42, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another questionable description — this time regarding the Pine Bluff Civic Center — was removed, noting that it was "now a run-down mess." But the website from the Pine Bluff Convention & Visitors Bureau paints a different picture. So, which is it... a crumbling heap, or a serviceable building? — ArkansasTraveler 13:58, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Convention Center is, while not perhaps the place it once was, still a perfectly servicable building. Basketball games, graduation ceremonies, and other events are still often held in the large (and in my opinion, decently maintained) arena and the auditorium is still in active use as well. Although it is perhaps not *the* biggest and fanciest convention center in Arkansas any longer (the one in Hot Springs, Arkansas was recently constructed and is more frequently used to my knowledge) it is far from a "crumbling heap." No evidence of vandalism from the Pine Bluff chamber, for example this edit [2] which actually reverted vandalism. ausa کui × 16:22, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. They have carefully avoided adding suspicious nonsense to it, and instead have only performed vandalism removal. Most of the brochure-like babble contained in the article dates from a much earlier date. I have tried to cut back on the glittering adjectives and other stuff that made it sound like an ad in places, as well as nuked a few sneaky edits from people like Montyhall. The City of Pine Bluff is taking great strides to improve the cities image. Mayor Carl Redus is working dilagently to improve the community and to develope programs to clean up the city (aesthetically, economically, etc). Many new businesses are setting up shop in Pine Bluff and more and more activities are being held at Regional Park. Thanks to the work of Mayor Redus and others in local government, Pine Bluff is morphing into an exciting and inviting city.

Bus service

[edit]

A comment that the city was served by Greyhound was removed, though you can book bus travel to and from Pine Bluff on greyhound.com. Though they seem to use affiliate carriers, such as Jefferson Lines. This should be clarified by someone more familiar with the facts on the ground. -- Beland 14:39, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Pine Bluff AR city seal.jpg

[edit]

Image:Pine Bluff AR city seal.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

A couple additions

[edit]

Im am writing in regards to the noteworthy natives section of the Pine Bluff page. I wondering how you can edit without it being deleted and what information you need to verify the edit.

It would help if they already had an article here on wikipedia, or ref links and citations that some how proved they were actually notable for something other than living in PB. I.e., your cousin who is the bass player in the band who plays at the local club on friday night prolly wont cut it, even if they got a review in the local paper, lol. Hope that helps.Heironymous Rowe (talk) 20:58, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notable residents descriptions

[edit]

User:Jmmyjam, A very short description, profession, etc. will suffice, there is no need to add overly flowery adjective laden spiels denoting their every accomplishment, position held or award won. Those sort of materials belong in their respective articles. Please stop adding this material back into the article. Heiro 00:11, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Since you haven't replied to my responses here Wikipedia:Content noticeboard#Pine Bluff, Arkansas, I'll also post them here: Adding adjectives such as "Nationally acclaimed", "Regionally acclaimed", "Pioneering" to multiple entries or a list of an artists patrons hardly fit into those categories. As for policies, I believe this part of the Manual of Style Wikipedia:Manual of Style (words to watch)#Puffery applies to this situation. Heiro 03:51, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On your addition of a "Notable facts" section, per the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trivia sections) these should be avoided. All the relevant information should be worked into the appropriate part of the body of the article, not added as a bulleted list. Heiro 18:29, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As you are now moving all of the information mentioned above, would you mind citing it to the sources from which you are obtaining it? This article is poorly referenced enough as it is and it would really help it out. If you are unsure how, here is a link Wikipedia:Template messages/Sources of articles/Citation quick reference.
