Significance of being found again

[edit]

If the wreckage was found soon after the crash and it was determined all were lost, what's the significance of the 2015 "discovery"? Hack (talk) 08:07, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Spanish-language Wikipedia article, the wreckage was observed by search planes from an altitude of 2000 to 3000 feet 8 days after the crash. The recent discovery was from the ground.--95.208.121.105 (talk) 21:44, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The original discovery only found the tailpiece, the main fuselage was now found in a separate location, and until they release the exact location, it's difficult to say much more... GremlinSA 08:16, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I cannot read Spanish but the reference 5 "El accidente del Douglas DC-3 LAN 210 (equipo Green Cross)" has lots of photos showing the entire fuselage, obviously taken from ground in 1961. Statements like only the tail being found after the accident or only aerial photos being previously available appear somewhat strange. The information of the discovery of the tail section only seems to be based on a statement by an unnamed person in reference 4 "Chilean mountaineers find plane lost in Andes over 53 years ago" and as such does not appear very reliable. There seems to be lots of contradicting information about the accident in the media. --Sivullinen (talk) 12:37, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That reference lists in semi detail what happened with the flight and crash.. Crucial details include: Tail section relatively intact, Left wing Detached-30m away, 6 Bodies never found/recovered, sections of the plane not found..GremlinSA 14:30, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Flight 621 or Flight 210?

[edit]

Aviation Safety Network lists the flight number as 621, not 210; 210 is actually the fin number as clearly seen in photographs of the aircraft before and after the crash. Meltdown627 (talk) 17:52, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
