AIDS

[edit]

Is there a cite for his death being AIDS-related? I don't see it in the article or any of the referenced sources, but the article is in "AIDS-related deaths in California" for some reason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.189.24.195 (talk) 17:23, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here's one: writer and record producer Gregor Benko, in his liner notes to VAI Audio's 2-CD set "Liszt - The 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies" (co-written with Mark Ainley), says that Bolet died as "the result of complications from AIDS - the greatest classical musician as yet [1994] to have died of AIDS". MUSIKVEREIN (talk) 01:29, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The question of Bolet's cause of death appears not to be settled. The NYT states heart failure - but the obit may just be going on what info was released by Bolet's estate or spokesperson. Benko is an inside source who is more likely to know the truth. I've heard that Bolet died of AIDS for over a decade. Of course, it may also be possible that while Bolet had AIDS, his death was unrelated to AIDS. People with AIDS/HIV die of unrelated causes, like heart failure, all the time. What I am going to do is add the line, "Gregor Benko states that Bolet died of AIDS" with a source listing. If the cause of Bolet's death is open to question, there is no need to cover that up in a Wikipedia article.THD3 (talk) 19:46, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

As it is, the article is terribly unencyclopedic and POV in tone. It is not for Wikipedia to make statements such as: "it should be reissued, with some urgency, as a fitting testament to this great musician". Other, more subtle examples of POV are scattered throughout the entire article. Someone with expertise in the subject matter should, IMO, rewrite the whole thing. --Ashenai 13:10, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems fine to me; I cannot see what the fuss is about. Vörös Laszlo 19 May 2006
It's highly biased: "his recording of the 12 Transcendental Etudes was mediocre at best." I agree with Ashenai - very unencyclopedic. --Waldszenen 27 June 2006

It seems that the article has now been toned down, apropos the comments above - can the cleanup tag now be deleted? An artist is entitled to have some plaudits given him surely? Peter Shearan 15:13, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I wrote the German article on Jorge Bolet 2 1/2 years ago and have reworked this one now. I think it can stay that way and the cleanup tag hence be removed. - 62.134.232.230 19:14, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The pronunciation of his name

[edit]

What's the pronunciation of his name? --Kevinashworth 18 Aug 2006

Though I'm late here, the Spanish pronunciation of his name is Hor'-hay Bo-let'. MUSIKVEREIN 17:37, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I heard him interviewed live on the radio station of the New York Times some 30-35 years ago. He said he didn't mind if English-speaking people pronounced his first name "George", but that he preferred his last name to be pronounced the Spanish way, sounding the final T, and not in the French manner. It is a Spanish (Catalan) surname.65.206.122.30 (talk) 22:11, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In catalan the surname sounds "Bulet".
I came here to ask the same question. It would be nice if someone could spell it out in IPA or something. :-) — Pladask (talk) 19:25, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
