Iain Lee's free LBC podcast gone!

[edit]

It seems the wise, intellegent, super smart powers that be have seen fit to take Iain's podcast out of the "free" list at http://lbc.audioagain.com/?action=feeds They are so smart, I'm amazed they havn't taken over the world already. In fact, I'm pretty sure their brains must be so big, they've got some amazingly brilliant reason for doing this. Shame my feeble brain can't quite work out what it is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.155.43.21 (talk) 18:21, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most vandalised pages

[edit]

Due to the constant bad jokes etc I've added this to Wikipedia:Most vandalized pages. Joe D (t) 18:01, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I therefore propose to edit protect this site for a while to allow the vandals to turn their attention elsewhere.--Westminsterboy 00:32, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To all of Lee's correspondents

[edit]

If you are a one of Iain's correspondents and have a website, Please add it into the external links. --RaptorX

I will have to delete some correspondent's websites (Even mine), if they are not a correspondent anymore. --RaptorX 10:09, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Do we still need the list of sacked correspondants in March, when the correspondant list went through a major change in April?

Iain or Ian?

[edit]

IANLEELOVE has been moving the page from Iain Lee to Mr Ian Lee & Replace Iain with Ian & In some cases the person has replaced it with Lee --RaptorX 17:25, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the article back again from Mr Ian Lee to Iain Lee. The "Mr" prefix is contrary to Wikipedia style. Whether the guy's name is "Iain" or "Ian" I do neither know nor care. Lupo 10:26, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's "Iain". If you see it changed to "Ian" then just do an RV.

To IANLEELOVE (talk · contribs): this page stays here (or just maybe goes to Ian Lee, I have no clue about that). It is protected against moves now, thanks to your repeated unilaterally moving it to titles that are against Wikipedia style. Lupo 13:29, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

IainLeeLove, surely you realise by now that you cannot win against the all encompassing collective mind of the Wiki? Resistance is futile and merry Christmas.

Wisdom Jones paragraph

I think lots of Wikipedians (Including me) miss out the paragraph about Wisdom Jones. --RaptorX 10:50, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This discussion page looks a bit of a mess!

[edit]

I think this talk page should be split into sections. Do you agree? --RaptorX 10:50, 24 December 2005 (UTC) :)[reply]

This what will happen when the talk page is split into sections

Agree Let's do it.--Westminsterboy 13:00, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Where the source?

[edit]

Would the boy working for a certain stock market broker in Bishopsgate and who has been libelling various people on the Wikipedia for some time please stop - now. You know how corporates are getting touchy about the misuse of their Internet connections, especially when things like libel or porn are concerned and server logs are readily available.

Legal threats are a little drastic, don't you think? Anyway Wikipedia has a Wikipedia:No legal threats policy. Further threats of lawsuits will result in you being blocked from editing.

If contributors to this page continue to leave unsigned messages they may find those conributions edited out.--Westminsterboy 21:50, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Artice stubbing

I think the article should stubed because it only tells about the his LBC show & it doesn't tell enough about rest of his shows. (e.g. Celebrity Soup, RI:SE & more) --RaptorX 10:32, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Coming out on Monday's programme

[edit]

WHAT RIGHT do people have to remove the FACT that he said he was gay on air? You must go through the discussion page first before you remove material entries. 160.83.73.14

I agree this should have gone through discussion before ANYONE deleted the gay entry. . JamieHughes

EXCUSE ME people who listen to the program made genuine comments. It is wrong to just delete them. 84.13.249.206

I was amazed to hear that Iain come out on his program that he is gay! Please keep this in the article as I definatly heard him say it. 160.83.73.14

I always thought it was the case, he just blurted it out on Monday! Brucethebiggaybear

It was the funnyest thing on radio, I was surprised he had a boyfriend! Rolandaslondon

I heard it too - could we put a section in referring to it? ZoeCroydon

It went to air on Monday. Please do not remove. LBC 97.3 Radio Show

Iain Lee's sexuality

[edit]

I agree 7 people have backed up the gay remark. This deserves to be in the article. It was on the air on Monday. It is even in the Podcast ZoeCroydon

He admitted he was Gay on air Monday. I heard it too. Jimboiain

I've put it back in, though I don't know if it needs to be in the lead sentence where I put it. A lot of you have accounts so in a few days they'll have aged enough to edit the article as you see fit. (To clarify, once your account is four days old you can edit semi-protected articles.)
Why on earth is this article vandalised so much that it took this long to get the information in? --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 15:13, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

the reference to Iain's sexuality has been discussed here and should not be deleted

[edit]

I don't care if it appears further down but it should appear. I am gay and feel it is very offensive and HOMOPHOBIC if the reference is constantly deleted. 160.83.32.14

I agree, why are people so homophobic here? Jimboiain

Assume good faith please, Jimboiain (and everyone else). I find accusations of homophobia offensive (even non-specific ones) and will not bother to work to include his sexuality in the article if involving myself with it is going to leave me open to speculation about whether I am a homophobe or not. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 15:33, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and sorry, it's just that it is so hard to come out and not fair for people to delete without referring to this page! By the way, his sexuality should be a bit higher in the article - it is an important part of his persona. Jimboiain

Having initially put it back in, I'm now inclined to agree with Arniep that this is actually a hoax. A Google search made me think that this was true. However, I didn't look closely enough - there doesn't seem to be any confirmation that Lee is gay apart from the comments here.

Given the extensive vandalism to this page, I'm not putting the gay thing back in - and will take it out if someone else does - until I see a reliable source, such as an official press release or transcript. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 15:43, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

10 people have gone on the discussion page to verify this, I heard it on the radio too. You can look up his podcast. Jimboiain

10 editors are not verification - see WP:NOR. The podcast, however, would be. Do you have a link to it? I'll have a listen when I get home from work. If you could tell me at which point he comes out so I can fast forward through the traffic news etc. that would also be appreciated. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 15:48, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The link is on the page, not sure what time but it was Monday. He came out and said he was Gay and made a comparison between him and Clive Bull as far as I recall. 160.83.32.14

Where on which page? Now that Westminsterboy below has claimed that he has said on air that he is not gay, I'm even less inclined to believe this. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 18:42, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If Iain Lee were gay it would be homophobic to delete references to such a fact. Since he has made it clear on air (Thursday 9th March passim) that he is not any such reference will continue to be deleted.--Westminsterboy 17:41, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have downloaded all of Iain Lee's podcasts from the last 2 weeks. There are no reference to his being a homosexual. Note: none of the editors who claim he is gay has a user page and all use similar puntuation and grammar. I am led to think of sockpuppetting. Minglex 14:18, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Minglex[reply]

(impersonator comment removed)

I just heard the podcast on Monday and he definatly came out as gay. There are a couple of (personal attack removed) on this site that are ganging up on the majority of users who say he is gay. 160.83.73.14 11:52, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't matter that the 'majority of users' say he is gay, everything in Wikipedia must be sourced, and so far my request for this mysteeeerious podcast that everyone claims to have heard has gone begging. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 12:04, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He said he was gay by accident. The fact is I and a lot of people thought it was real. 84.13.94.159

May I suggest this

[edit]

A large number of people reported that Iain made a comment saying he was Gay on Monday 6th March, 2006. At present this is unverified. 160.83.73.14 13:31, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. Wikipedia cannot be a source for itself. OTOH, show me an official press release or similar where Iain Lee says "I deny the widespread rumours that I am gay", or a gossip column in a half-decent tabloid (not a blog), and that would be a reliable source that these rumours aren't confined to this talk page. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 19:52, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why are people so against the fact that Iain is gay? He admitted it today on the radio and Clive Bull just confirmed it. I will email him and put the email here, is that good enough for you HOMOPHOBES!!!! 84.13.75.0 23:19, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Assume good faith please, editors are trying to create an article based upon factual sources and if verifiable evidence can actually be produced (it looks unlikely) then it will be included. I note that not including the 'information' (highly questionable) that a straight man is homosexual is not homophobia.Minglex 23:36, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello person who keeps impersonating me, although I find immitation to be a sincere form of flattery it is a little innapropriate here. I have dropped Iain an email and hopefully we will be able to get a definate yes or no on the question of his sexuality. I must ask you chaps to wait a while till I get a reply and stop bickering unnesesarily. JamieHughes

do you think he's going to give you a serious reply? Arniep 20:37, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Righto, yesterday evening I dropped him an email asking the question of his sexuality and he has given us an official reply:

"Iain Lee <Iain.Lee@lbc.co.uk>to me More options 12:12 am (7 hours ago) yes, ive seenthe furious debate and constant changes to wikepedia.

Unfortunately your credentials are hardly solid after your past behaviour on this discussion are they. And now lots of morons are posting fake emails, I suggest that you post something coming close to a credible picture of said email (which I will examine for fraud) or else what you say can hardly be seen as credible. I suggest Sam (If you could) keeps up the podcast listening and if he actually mentions getting married then we accept it, I listen to the show every day and I have never heard such. JamieHughes

It's completely irrelevant anyway. Claiming that you've received an email is not a source even if it did exist. Emailing people to ask them whether they're engaged is original research. We need a reliable source that people can see without having to email the subject to confirm it. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 21:36, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The same could be said for the gay email you took as genuine. Give me your email address and I'll send it to you.

My email is available through Wikimail same as everyone else's. Go to my userpage and click 'Email this user' on the left. However, you're wasting your time. An email you received is not a source, and given the recent silly buggers on this page I'm not inclined to trust anyone emailing me and saying "yeah, this came from Iain Lee, honest". --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 22:47, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

he studied Human Biology at Goldsmiths. we cant put it in. this is pants. they block users who post things. he said it and we even have emails from him but, noooo we can't update. This site is a waste of time. 84.13.84.22

The recent sneaky vandalism to this article means we can no longer tolerate adding information which is not properly sourced. 'Sourced' as in 'sourced', not as in "I've got an email, honestly, and this one's real unlike the last one about how he was gay/engaged/a Martian/whatever". --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) ( T | C | A ) 22:42, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Real name

I would like it added to the Wikipedia record that Iain Lee's birthname is in fact Iain Rougvie. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.132.72.235 (talkcontribs)

Iain Lee admitted his name was Rougvie live on his radio show at approximately 16.20 on 28 March 2006. You can buy the podcast for documentary evidence at www.lbc973.co.uk.

Please note per the notice at the top of this talk page Blogs, emails, and statements made on the radio do not meet this criteria. That does not meet criteria for reliable source. KillerChihuahua?!? 15:37, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Might this help? http://groups.google.co.uk/groups?q=%22Iain%20Rougvie%22 From the groups that Iain Rougvie posted in (Beach Boys, Monkees, Kiss), the vocabularly used ("mentalists", "mental case", "nut case") and general arrogance - I'm pretty certain it's Iain Lee. Pctuk 17:32, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In light of my findings, I've added this as fact to the main page.

I've removed it pending an actual source. There has been too much hoaxing and vandalism of this article to allow any more unsourced information. Anyone can post messages on the Internet claiming to be Iain Lee. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 17:55, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
2nded the removal. KillerChihuahua just said "blogs, emails, .." and then you say "well look how this guy posts on googlegroups!". Anything not verifyable from a reliable source should not be included. edit - I thought about it some more and in addition to the above, this addition was based on original research which is also against Wikipedia guidelines. --Syrthiss 18:10, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I can understand the overcautiousness given all the vandalism. However, could other reputable Iain Lee fans look at the evidence and verify that this is very likely to be true? (How likley does something have to be for it to be included? Beyond resonable doubt?) These posts show that a pretty hard-core Kiss/Beach Boy/Monkees fan has posted to usenet, using a name that others have said Iain spoke about on air. I doubt this is something that can be 100% proven, but it seems pretty conclusive to me. Anyone else agree? Pctuk 19:48, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia has stated guidelines for reliable sources. I'm afraid we'd have to see this in print / on the web in one of the listed kinds of sources there. So while what you say might be verifiable (which is dodgy since it mainly lies in original research inferred from the posts), we need it to be Verifiable. I'm sorry. --Syrthiss 19:57, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's OK, I understand that you need to make sure that all the information is true. I just think there's a balance between quantity of information and quality, and I think in this case quality is being upheld at the expense of information being left out that is very likely to be true. If someone could upload an audio snippet of Iain saying this, would that be accepted as evidence? Thanks for taking the time to discuss this. Pctuk 20:03, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So Iain Lee says on his own radio show, using the power of his own voice, to admit that his real name is Iain Rougvie and it's still not verifiable. Ker-razy. Oh well, at least if anyone wants the truth they can check out this discussion and discover that Iain Lee's real name is Iain Rougvie. Job done!

Not seeing a question doesn't mean refusal... I'd however much prefer the above backed up with an official record of his real name from his studio, or official record of his legal name change. Him saying it on the air wouldn't be the first or last time that a DJ attempted misinformation. --Syrthiss 17:07, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
With a name like that I'm not surprised he wanted to change it. Arniep 13:54, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, the page was protected because of vandalism by anons trying to add unsourced information by "group pressure", which was proven to be a bunch of sockpuppets. Trying the same thing here will get your ip addresses blocked for disruption. Thanks. --Syrthiss 15:28, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I heard Iain Lee say he was Christopher Lee's grandson on RI:SE a few years ago. The problem is Lee only has a daughter, so... is she Iain's mother? Arniep 18:38, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That would be how these things happen. ;) That aside, I'd need to see a reference somewhere other than the Christopher Lee wikipedia article (since that info was only added earlier this month, by an anon, and not sourced). Syrthiss 18:45, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I removed it before as I couldn't see how he could be his grandson as he didn't have a son, but if it is true that hs birth name is Rougvie then maybe he took his mother's maiden name. I also checked on the Christopher Lee official forum but I couldn't find any discussion of the link. Arniep 19:36, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - though it seems User:Arniep reverted it! Anon Dude 14:41, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up this bollocks! 88.108.190.5 14:38, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will go ahead with it, unless anyone says over the next few days we shouldn't do it Anon Dude 20:43, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the info is referenced from Iain Lee's website and the LBC site. Arniep 22:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah but this is an encyclopedia not a fan page. We don't need to know about Agent Chris and Bobs relationship, we don't need to know about some correspondants that were sacked, we don't need to know about an obscure race that took place between Lee and O'Brian. Plus it is the source of a helluva lot of vandalism! Anon Dude 17:32, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

Hi, what is the point of the vandalism of this article? Its getting beyond a joke now. - Jrgnet Talk 08:17, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Elite

Iain plays Elite (computer game) (he's said on radio about it) - Trivia, but whole section had been dropped as 'unsourced'. )--Ricksy 02:24, 4 July 2007 (UTC

Is he also the current "voice of Dave" (as in the freeview TV channel)? Their announcer namedropped himself recently as Ian Lee. I don't actually know him well enough to spot the voice however - that link is the entire reason I've wound up here in fact. (And does anyone know the name of the deeper voiced and somewhat more likable continuity announcer whom he replaced and briefly partnered e.g. in their rally show trails?) 77.102.101.220 (talk) 22:43, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Real name & page clean-up

[edit]

Should the page mention his birth name Iain Rougvie? It has been mentioned on air a couple of times and is inlcuded in the (properly sourced) wikipedia entry for former Aberdeen football Doug Rougvie, cousin of Iain. Also I think the page needs a little clean up, it goes on too long about LBC and bypasses some of his TV work. --NoOneReally 18:28, 17 July (UTC)

Should Iain Lee's collum in "Retro Gamer" magazine be included in other work?

LearningTigran (talk) 10:38, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why not - it's paid public work. If you word a section with an appropriate reference from an independent source and post it here, someone can add it. Orderinchaos 11:20, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know if I'm doing this right but: "Lee has been a regular guest collumnist for retro gamer magazine" and then maybe this interview - http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4144824-savage-pixels-10--a-retro-special-with-gold-panda-iain-lee-and-some-zx-spectrum-games I haven't done this before, hopefully that makes sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LearningTigran (talkcontribs) 10:47, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sacked from BBC after "bigot" row?

[edit]

Should there not be something about this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34842156 ? It seems like quite a big event but there is no mention of it as far as I can see. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.19.15.56 (talk) 23:06, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Add Streaming Section?

[edit]

As Iain Lee has now finished Radio broadcasting and has officially moved his show to Twitch, do you think it would be suitable to create a separate section titled "Streaming Career"?

The latest move is a first by Twitch which is therefore prominent. No radio show has ever gone from traditional to twitch before. Also, lee has an extensive past in streaming have previously done video games and reviews of the 11 o'clock show, one of his listed past shows.

Twitch doesn't fit Radio so I just thought I'd ask here for thoughts. LawlessTiger220 (talk) 11:24, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of The Late Night Alternative into Iain Lee

[edit]

There is some content here, but looking at the references, most of this could easily be merged to Lee's actual article. A lot of the references are pertinent to the host himself rather than the show which doesn't seem notable for a full article.   Kadzi  (talk) 19:35, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
