– I may be totally wrong, but per WP:CONSISTENCY it seems that we need to remove the "Al Said" part from the title of these articles as none of the other articles about the rulers of Oman have the dynastic name in their titles. The Arabic article about Qaboos also omits this part. If users decide otherwise, then I'd assume that "Al Said" needs to be added to the main title of all the articles about Omani sultans from this dynasty. Keivan.fTalk 04:10, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • I thought of that but, (a) as has been pointed out, we are already not generally including the dynastic identifier, and (b) should it a need for disambiguation come along, to distinguish "Qaboos bin Said (Oman)" from "Qaboos bin Said (Jordan)" would be clearer to most users, no? Assuming that users are more likely to be aware of or interested in a ruler's country than their dynasty. Largoplazo (talk) 16:47, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Support - sounds reasonable. Interstellarity (talk) 13:33, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We need to add a picture of the Sultan

[edit]

Does anyone know how to do this? The editing part is really confusing for me. 91.scarhead (talk) 09:34, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know of any photos we could use? Johndavies837 (talk) 11:47, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've been checking Flickr on a daily basis but it's hard to come by photo of him with a compatible CC license. Maybe we can keep a fair use image up until a better option presents itself in the future?Droodkin (talk) 12:42, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I found a photo which we can use on the UN Photo website. Their guidelines say: "Written permission is, however, not required for reproduction of photo material as allowed by statutory exemptions ... or Fair Use. (Fair Use applies solely to scholarly, academic, non-profit, or journalistic use of properly credited UN photos.) ... All UN photos, whether used in print, electronic or online format, must be credited as follows: UN Photo by [name of photographer] (if available) or as stated in the corresponding photo caption." I would upload it to Commons but I'm having trouble finding the right copyright license. Any idea? Johndavies837 (talk) 13:22, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I posted it under Attribution 4.0 International, with additional info in the description regarding its usage under Fair Use and the UN's policy of written permission. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Haitham_bin_Tariq.jpg RBolton123 (talk) 02:46, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you RBolton123, this should work for now at least until we get a more recent one (keep an eye out for US State Department visits). I've added it in to the article. Droodkin (talk) 05:51, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fair use images are not allowed on Commons at all. Even locally on Wikipedia, fair use images of living people are usually not allowed. You could try the contact link on the guidelines website and ask them to make the photo freely available, I suppose. BegbertBiggs (talk) 01:04, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There are two sentences which misspell his name as "Haitham bin Tarik". This should be corrected to Tariq. These are:

Haitham bin Tarik is married...
On 12 January 2021, by a royal decree of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik...

Both of these are located in the Sultan of Oman section of the article. Векочел (talk) 16:36, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
