Sussman rocks

[edit]

Gerry Sussman totally rocks! Anyone at MIT--make sure you take one of his classes while you're here. You won't regret it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 18.250.0.80 (talk) 3:34, 13 Sept 2005 (UTC)

I disagree. He's an arrogant jerk, who likes to throw chalk at his students when he gets upset. completely inappropriate behavior for a Professor. By my junior year, every time I walked into a class and saw him, I turned around and walked out. Maxvip (talk) 13:05, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How dare you say such things about our Teacher the Sussman, blasphemer! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.41.74.86 (talk) 16:38, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Even though I'm more than 16 years late, I have to assume there's some joke here that I'm missing. 91.208.233.222 (talk) 03:57, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Referring to Maxvip's comment, BTW. 91.208.233.222 (talk) 03:58, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Steele's poem on Sussman

[edit]

Guy Steele writes[1]:

"Sussman built a hacker for a Ph.D. thesis. When will someone for a thesis build a hacker that builds a hacker?"
Quaxity quuxity,
Gerald J. Sussman made
HACKER so famous for
Loopholes it plugs.
Armed with its knowledge of
Entomological
Manifestations, it
Ferrets out bugs.

What's Steele talking about here? -- Gwern (contribs) 04:46, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Obvious to me. Perhaps you should go read the thesis? A paragraph on gjs' PhD thesis would be a worthwhile add to this biography. It was and remains groundbreaking work. Lentower 20:46, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GNU?

[edit]

Why is he in category GNU people? The biography here does not explain this! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.84.164.86 (talk) 11:37, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He's been an active supporter of rms and GNU, as well as a contributor, since before the beginning and has been a Director of the Free Software Foundation since its founding. He is listed as a director on the FSF web site and in the WP article: Free Software Foundation. He and Abelson also switched MIT Scheme from one of the first free software copyright use notices to the GPL a while back. You're right that this needs to be added to this biography. Feel free to do so. Lentower 20:41, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dates needed

[edit]

This article would be much improved by adding the years to the events and projects it mentions. E.g. "In YEAR", "From YEAR to now". Lentower (talk) 17:47, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stop posting about Among Us, I'm tired of seeing it. 70.124.147.243 (talk) 22:56, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can whoever keeps trying to coverup Sussman's time on Epstein's island and association with Epstein please stop deleting this information from his page? I've added a bunch of times with sources and it keeps getting deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.133.177.216 (talk) 13:55, 27 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I added information to this article about Sussman's time on Epstein's island, Little St. James, as well, also sourced, and my contribution was also deleted. This led me here, searching for an explanation as to why my contribution was erased, only to discover that another person apparently had their similar contributions repeatedly removed. If the person or people who are doing this have any meaningful argument as to why this information should be omitted from the article, please do make your point here rather than simply continuing this back-and-forth in which you've now summarily erased contributions by multiple users over several years, which, in the absence of even any attempted justification, certainly appears as abusive manipulation of Wikipedia's open format to suppress well-sourced and meaningful information.
