Casualties

[edit]

The number of people killed varies depending on who you ask, some estimates are as low as 90 whilst others report 100 or more. The figure I used comes from the Met Office's assessment. --Zerbey 15:41, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I seen to remember that it was during this storm that Gordon Kaye suffered serious head injuries when a scaffolding pole flew through the windscreen of his car. Mintguy (T) 15:44, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Ah.. just checked on the BBC site (as did you I guess) and I see it was a plank from a billboard. Mintguy (T)
Me, I thought for sure it was a tree, I guess my memory is not what it used to be! Glad I checked... --Zerbey 16:43, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC)
From what *I* remember, it was widely reported as being a large tree branch that went through the windscreen...that was before the full facts were known SmUX 19:17, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Strongest storm on record?

[edit]

The claim that this was "one of the strongest storms on record" needs both citation and qualification, such as "one of the strongest storms to hit Europe". I mean, it wouldn't rank in the top 5 in any given Atlantic hurricane season, would it? Jeff Worthington 14:48, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In a single hurricane season...maybe, if it's a slow season. But yeah, it needs clarification as one of the strongest storms to hit Europe, or the U.K. bob rulz 12:10, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Burns' Day stormBurns Day storm – Burns Day itself has no apostrophe, so shouldn't the storm named after it do the same? Sophie means wisdom (talk) 21:58, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fatalities

[edit]

It is unbelievable that this article has failed to make any mention of the tragic number of people in the UK who lost their lives, while talking up the insurance cost - which makes WP look at bit off-colour really. I have belatedly provided that information. Tsk. Thelisteninghand (talk) 20:45, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well done then. If you find a problem with an article, WP:fixit.Dcs002 (talk) 07:25, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
