List of names

[edit]

To the IP editors attempting to add an unsourced list of every participant: We never include a list of every participant in these articles, these are children, and not every child will be covered by the press to merit a mention here. This article is for the use of readers, not a memorial for those who participate.--Milowenthasspoken 18:26, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Getting this far is enough notability for a Wiki page. They are all covered by the media, and now a lock has been placed which will stop info from being inserted quickly when the bee is happening. Also, I'm one of those kids. Erfson (talk) 19:29, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats on making it that far. Still doesn't make you or any of the other children participating notable enough to include such a list in Wikipedia. Zchrykng (talk) 23:38, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It seems odd that someone who claims to have taken part in the contest is apparently unable to spell words like existent or enough. Dorsetonian (talk) 21:12, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey maybe we shouldn't add the list of names, but I just wanted to ask for everyone's opinion if we should just make a link to the spelling bee page for it. It's just a suggestion so please don't get mad. The URL is http://spellingbee.com/meet-the-spellers/2018 Erfson (talk) 01:39, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have added an external link to the official website. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:51, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Great now we all agree Erfson (talk) 01:52, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Jim, I moved the external links section below the reference section per MOS, and I heartily endorse your addition of the organization's official website per WP:ELYES. Erfson, we are not in agreement with you. The guideline I just mentioned says basically that the first entry in an external links section should be the subject of the article's official website. Another portion of the external link guidelines, WP:ELNO, states clearly that we do not include subpages of already linked pages. So if we are to take your above message as a malformed COI edit request, the results are pretty clearly

OK thanks for the feedback.—Erfson — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erfson (talkcontribs) 04:10, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Number of Contestants

[edit]

Btw, just so everyone knows the official and final number of contestants is 516 Erfson (talk) 14:52, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Erfson: As soon as there is a source for that, the number can be changed! (The current sources say "over 500" and "519" respectively). --bonadea contributions talk 14:55, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Plese check the spelling bee's official instgram page — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erfson (talkcontribs) 14:56, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see where that is listed as an external link in the article, so editors and readers won't have a reason to know there is such an account, or think to look there - and in any case Instagram is not a good source. Since there is no hurry and no deadline, the best thing to do is to wait until after the event is over, which will be very soon, and if necessary update the number then (if and only if there are reliable independent sources for it). Wikipedia is not a news service, and does not make real-time updates. --bonadea contributions talk 15:05, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
But the bee has officially claimed this instagram page as its own and in their 4th most recent post, says 516 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erfson (talkcontribs) 19:10, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Erfson: Please see WP:RS. Instagram doesn't qualify as a reliable source, even if it is officially claimed by the organization. Also, since you have a COI you should probably refrain for editing the page at all until you are more familiar with Wikipedia policy.
