Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose to merge Portal:Women's association football into Portal:Association football. Reasons:

  • It's the same sport, with the same rules. I see no point in dealing in different portals.
  • The merge will be a simple process, the portals have the same sections, it will just be a content copy.
  • Portal:Women's association football does not seem to meet WP:POG and may be nominated for exclusion.

  • I disagree. It should be kept as it's own. This looks like an attempt to bury or delete info about women footballers. WP:POG needs to be updated. Not sure what you're referring to specifically. Hmlarson (talk) 01:17, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Contrariwise @Hmlarson:, See, Portal:Association football/Selected biography not display any woman biography. The information from the Portal: Women's association football would be redirected in sequence without any loss of content. And I believe it's a matter of equality lists the stars of the feminine next to the masculine.Guilherme Burn (talk) 11:31, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
See also: Portal:English football and Portal:Football in Africa for a few more examples that are separate. If you want to add women to the Association Football portal, go forth. It's already ripe with English men's footballers, but of course could use an update. Hmlarson (talk) 15:50, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Hmlarson: Per now, i did the redirects test with five biographies.. See Portal:Association football/Selected biographyGuilherme Burn (talk) 16:39, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Right.... Have you seen the recent page view metrics for the portals? Hmlarson (talk) 17:00, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Soccer portals, that is? Hmlarson (talk) 17:03, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No. I don't understand. What's the point?Guilherme Burn (talk) 17:23, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Don't merge - muddled nomination. Point one is dubious as women's football has its own distinct history including - yes - different rules (shorter matches, smaller balls etc). Point two isn't even an argument because it could be said of anything being merged into anything. Point three appears to be an unsupported argument for deletion, not merger. Your personal beliefs about how best to serve matters of equality on Wikipedia are not particularly relevant either, although I accept you have offered them in good faith. Games in Reserves/U21/U23

[edit]

The Reserves/U21/U23-teams are not youth teams. It's senior football. So you have to put them into Senior career. For example Mason_Greenwood, Callum Hudson-Odoi or Wayne Rooney (as you can see it's not a youth team). This games are Senior club appearances, so there is no reason to hide them or to put them into the youth career. --HSV1887 (talk) 10:40, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It remains to be sorted out if the Player is to be called Spiegler or Shpigler. The latter would be afaik the yiddish emulation of the name, which is consistently used in the text. Oalexander (talk) 10:06, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
