Spoken article quality assessment

[edit]

Version reviewed: March 30, 2009

Technical quality: Medium

  • Introduction and licensing information are appropriate.
  • Standard recording format is used (44.1 kHz 16-bit mono).
  • No distracting breathiness and relatively few post-processing artifacts (except as noted below).
  • The following issues prevent this recording from achieving a "High" Technical rating:
    • Noticeable pops at 1:27, 2:15, 9:14, 12:57, 13:29, 14:20 and 17:00.
    • A first take at 1:30 that was accidentally left undeleted.
    • Sections 3.1 onward have a high-pitched din (most discernible on external speakers) which suggests that different noise-reduction settings were used in this portion of the article. This artifact disappears in part of Section 5 (21:37–23:52).
  • Other recommendations:
    • There is a minor jump in the reader's volume at 11:06. Levelator is recommended to give the recording a consistent sound level.

Clarity: High

  • The article is clearly enunciated and the speaker's voice is easily understood.

Accuracy: High

  • The source material is faithfully reproduced with contents, infoboxes, quotations and images well "asided".
  • Voice inflections are appropriate and pauses are well timed to separate phrases and sentences. Extended quotations in particular are well inflected.
  • Minor deviations:
    • 5:24 – "Objects and information discovered on one Age" (instead of "in one Age")
    • 9:56 – "This company" (instead of "The company")
    • 12:31 – Pronunciation of "palettes" ("pa-LETS" instead of "PAL-its")
