Questions tagged [piezoelectricity]

A physical effect that translates mechanical stress to generated voltage. It is a reciprocal effect, so the application of voltage can induce stress/strain. Used for speakers/microphones, load cells to measure weigh and most commonly in strikers for igniting BBQ's and lighters. A common material the exhibits this effect is quartz.
