Digital Advertising Alliance Recognizes Genie Barton and Lee Peeler as 'DAA Privacy Icons' for Leadership in Advertising Self-Reg and Accountability

The Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) today (June 13, 2024) named Genie Barton and Lee Peeler with the 2024 "DAA Privacy Icon" award in recognition of their leadership in privacy self-regulation and accountability. While serving at the Council of Better Business Bureaus (now BBB National Programs), Barton and Peeler created and ran the Digital Advertising Accountability Program, which continues to serve as an independent enforcement program for self-regulation of the digital advertising industry.

A day before this year’s Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) Summit 2017, we held our inaugural “Digital Advertising Accountability Workshop,” which provided the latest insights in responsible data collection and transparency through a series of engaging presentations and panel discussions.  We were able to offer Continuing Legal Education credit in eligible states, an added benefit for attorneys that also heard practical compliance advice for their clients’ benefit.

Our Accountability Partners are ready to begin the enforcement phase of DAA’s Cross-Device Guidance -- the next step in a process that we, as the responsible digital ad industry, started almost 2 years ago with initial development of the guidance itself.

The Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) Principles for Interest-Based Advertising and Multi-Site Data collection and use are well established in both desktop and mobile advertising environments.
