Job Description

Please note that applications for this role will be considered from any location globally which has a Clifford Chance office.

The role

You will play a central role in the development of both lawyers and business professionals across Clifford Chance as they progress in their careers through key milestones, programs and pathways.

You will align development to the Firm's strategic priorities, business needs and people frameworks to ensure that our people continually enhance their leadership skills, client relationships and commercial discipline by designing and developing assessment centres, learning pathways and programs. This role will also lead on a number of strategic programs and initiatives, in partnership with other teams across Human Resources, Global Functions and Practice Areas.

You will incorporate both quantitative and qualitative data as well as feedback to influence the design and content of future learning programs and pathways.

This role will require some attendance at on-site and off-site programs or events; so some travel will be required, as well as on occasional evenings and weekends.

Who you will work with

Across the global network, you will directly work with Clifford Chance lawyers and business professionals and their career development partners and/or line managers as they progress in their careers.

In addition to your colleagues on the Learning & Leadership Development Team, you will also work closely with key stakeholders and teams across the globe, including Practice Areas and Partners, Global Functions and the Shared Service Delivery teams.

What you will be responsible for

You will be responsible for working with the business to enable and improve individual and Firm performance aligned with the Firm's strategic goals. You will work as a key member of the global Learning and Leadership Development Centre of Excellence and will be specifically responsible for the design, development, and implementation of certain global Learning and Leadership Development content, in relation to signature milestones, program and other programs and initiatives as directed.

You will ensure that participants on our signature programmes and assessment centres receive structured feedback and development plans. You will partner with the Talent Management CoE and other Global HR teams to develop a structured approach to career development and progression.

You will be responsible for curating and delivering feedback to participants with regards to their performance and development needs and collating overall feedback on performance and experience of the programmes.

You will develop the KPIs and metrics to measure effectiveness.

What you will do

You will be responsible for a portfolio of activities and programs in the annual calendar, as well as others on an ad hoc basis depending on the needs of the business.

Development Centres

The Learning and Leadership Development team designs and conducts development centres to identify, assess and develop top talent. Aspects of this role may include:

  • Updating and creating learning and leadership competency matrices and assessment frameworks.
  • Designing assessment processes and exercises.
  • Utilising psychometric tools or reports, or 360 data.
  • Assessing candidate performance and providing verbal and written feedback reports.

Design and deploy Learning and Leadership Development programs

The Learning and Leadership Development team designs and deploys a range of programs to build capability, culture and connection, in line with the firm's business and people strategies. Aspects of this role may include:

  • Identify learning and development needs via a variety of sources including capability frameworks, performance review data, focus group interviews, feedback reviews, surveys, psychometric tools and other people metrics.
  • Prepare internal proposals containing recommendations for programmes including learning objectives, learning methods, budget requirements and delivery plan.
  • Source external providers who have specialized expertise and co-design bespoke development with them and the L&LD Team.
  • Update and review materials to ensure they continue to assess and develop skills and behaviours which are aligned to the Firm's strategic goals.
  • Oversee and project manage the roll-out of global learning programs and pathways including managing stakeholders, project planning, vendor management, resourcing, budgeting and other operational aspects.
  • Utilise digital learning and other forms of learning technologies to design impactful online learning.
  • Facilitate workshops, lead group coaching circles, moderate panels, write development reports, act as an assessor and coach employees on their development needs and career progression at Clifford Chance. Evaluate the effectiveness of learning and leadership development programs and continuously improve them as part of an annual review cycle.

Design and deploy ad hoc programs and workshops

The Learning and Leadership Development Team designs and deploys a range of ad hoc programs, pathways and workshops for relevant groups and teams within the business. Aspects of this role may include:

  • Engaging senior stakeholders to effectively diagnose the needs of the group and suggest a range of solutions.
  • Design bespoke learning and leadership development solutions.
  • Facilitate workshops or activities, which may involve virtual or in person delivery.
  • Utilising psychometric tools, surveys, 360s, culture and team diagnostics.
  • Evaluate effectiveness and reporting back to key stakeholders.

Strategic Projects

The Learning and Leadership Development team is at an exciting phase in it's evolution. A number of key projects and initiatives have been identified and are part of the team's strategic plan. Aspects of this role will see you:

  • Own and drive end to end learning projects in line with business and functional needs (from discovery through to design, deployment and evaluation).
  • Utilise project management principles, tools and methodologies.

Qualifications

Your experience

Skills

You will have the ability, knowledge, credibility and creativity to deliver training sessions in person, virtually and in blended learning environments.

You will be able to design and develop bespoke training and assessments drawing on an in-depth knowledge of needs analysis, processes and best practices for both a classroom and online environment.

Experience in organisational psychology, psychometric instruments, capability assessment tools, project management and coaching is beneficial, but not a requirement.

You will have strong written and communication skills enabling you to build relationships with people at all levels, leveraging and developing on your internal network. You will have a flexible and effective communication style, to ensure communication strategies promote inclusivity and diversity.

Experience

You will be able to demonstrate experience within a Learning and Leadership Development role for professionals with ideally experience of design, delivery and coaching.

You will have experience with LMS systems and technology that supports blended delivery of learning pathways and programs.

Knowledge

You will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the firm and be committed to keeping up to date with new ideas and innovations with the legal services sector and in professional skills learning and development, in line with best practice in adult learning methodologies.
