We are happy to share that SIT TOGETHER, the innovative prototype bench developed by TOPOTEK 1 in partnership with MDT-tex, is currently on display at Interni Cross Vision during FuoriSalone 2024 in Milan until April 28th. Developed to address the pressing issue of climate change, SIT TOGETHER represents a new approach to outdoor seating tailored for diverse climate zones. Engineered specifically for the Mediterranean climate, the exhibited design prioritizes environmental responsiveness while challenging traditional notions of outdoor furniture functionality. By seamlessly blending European furniture traditions with the climatic wisdom of Persian chimneys, it transcends conventional boundaries. As visitors engage in this dialogue of cultural exchange, they're encouraged to reflect on design's evolving role in response to climate and environment. This echoes the exhibition's core mission: to nurture a sense of joy rooted in sustainable practices and the celebration of diverse cultural perspectives. The public talk organized by Mapei with Martin Rein-Cano, landscape architect at TOPOTEK 1 Studio and Grazia Signori, stone paving specialist from Mapei, held in occasion of the #DesignWeek in Milan has been full of insights. We are pleased to announce that MVRDV in collaboration with TOPOTEK 1, has been selected as one of the two finalists for the international competition “Quartier am Hafenplatz” in Berlin. Further evaluation of both proposals will determine the development for the project. The design concept for Kulturhafen Quartier aims to cultivate an urban community by leveraging density and integrating diverse outdoor spaces, ranging from public entry points like Hafenplatz and Hafenpromenade to a verdant courtyard and rooftop areas across Mendelsohn-Bartholdy Park. Dedicated to creating a balanced urban landscape, the public space integrates community and culture. The public entry points to the new quarter and offer a blend of urban ambiance and greenery that encourage social interactions. A pathway extending from Hafenplatz into Kulturhafen Quartier promotes connectivity with neighboring sites, and provides recreational amenities catering to all age groups. Throughout its length, outdoor facilities complement the ground floor’s cultural institutions, the ateliers, and the library. At the heart of the quarter lies a verdant courtyard, neighboring a plant-based greywater treatment plant. Developed as part of the "International Building Exhibition Berlin" -- a significant urban renewal project, the site was established in 1987 and has been designated as cultural heritage. In response to the need for restoration and enhancement, the proposed design preserves all existing features, while introducing abundant playgrounds and exercise facilities accessible to all residents of the new quarter. In synergy, a layer of greenery across multiple levels accommodates activities on the community roofs of the new buildings. The project extends its scope to enhance Mendelsohn-Bartholdy Park, preserving its fundamental layout while introducing new amenities and improving connectivity. Renovated playgrounds, expanded seating areas, and upgraded pedestrian pathways aim to enhance accessibility and appeal. Sustainable practices, including climate-appropriate vegetation and rainwater management systems, underscore the project's commitment to ecological responsibility, ensuring a biodiverse and resilient urban landscape for future generations. #topotek1 #mvrdv #rendering #architecturecompetition #competitiondesign

A year ago, we were awarded the 1st Prize in the landscape architecture competition for Bildungscampus West in Heilbronn, in collaboration with Pesch Partner Architektur Stadtplanung. We are happy to announce that TOPOTEK 1 Architektur in collaboration with AFF Architects won the 1st prize for the architecture competition of the Alfons-Kern and Emma-Jäger-Areal in Pforzheim. The formerly industrial Alfons-Kern and Emma-Jäger-Areal of Pforzheim are transformed into a lively mixed-use quarter with a formal expression, conveying the spatial heterogeneity of its bounding context. As if washed ashore by the River Enz to its south, the new development containing a mix of apartments and workspaces above in synergy with public commercial spaces below fills large voids on the riverbank and adapts to the adjacent, more dense urban form towards the north. The two separate building plots are unified with a legible tectonic language for the twelve mid-rises and a cohesive landscape and open space strategy that reinforces the identity of the entire development: strong north-south connectivity between the city centre and the river and a playful allocation of public squares. The design takes into account the diversity of existing constructions that characterise the site and configures the new development into a hybridisation of closed and open blocks. A continuous ground floor binds the three mid-rise structures of each block; its green roof becomes an elevated terrace for tenants of the residential and office units above. Each mid-rise has a different height, ensuring a diversity of views from within and a dynamic perception from the surroundings. The structural approach to each block makes clever use of mass timber construction. The arrangement of office and apartment units emphasises corner spaces that offer light from two sides; a wide variety of resulting spatial types caters to an array of residents and lifestyles. The consolidation of structural components towards the core also opens up the exterior to be fit with a patchwork array of outdoor spaces, extending the stunning views over the river and neighbourhood.
