We are taking our transformation to the next level with the state-of-the-art furnace 6. This exciting and challenging construction project was built during ongoing production. A new state-of-the-art slag press is being installed at our Karmøy plant. This will allow us to recycle waste from #aluminium production. “Not only will the quality of the product be higher, but we will reduce both operating costs and waste from production" explains Pål T. Endresen, plant manager at Speira Karmøy. Speira invests NOK 414 million in a new furnace for recycled material! "This investment secures a large number of jobs in Holmestrand for the foreseeable future. The old furnace has been in operation for 50 years and the new one is expected to last at least another 50 years. This is very good news," explains Jon Gaasholt, plant manager at Speira Holmestrand. With the new furnace, we will be able to process an additional 22,000 tons of scrap per year. This means that about half of the site's production will be based on recycled scrap. This will reduce the carbon footprint of the Holmestrand operations by 150,000 tons of CO2. The furnace will also reduce NOx emissions and odors from the site. Exciting developments at Speira R&D in Bonn! Our test trials at the Recycling Technology Center are diving into the intricacies of #aluminium scrap melting. We are evaluating the performance of various energy sources for melting different aluminium scrap types while also analyzing how different processing methods affect scrap behavior during melting. Here is a glimpse into our last test: A minimum of 300 kg of input material is manually charged into the lab single-chamber furnace. After complete melting, we skim the furnace and extract a representative dross sample. Following this, we empty the furnace in 250 kg ingots and take spectrometer and melt-quality samples during the casting process. In other trials, the same lab furnace is set up as a shaft furnace to resemble our production #recycling furnaces, which are capable of melting scrap with up to 5% organic content. This allows us to match scrap, furnace and charging method in the best possible way. #redefinethelimits #inspeiradbyaluminium #researchanddevelopment

We continue our transformation for aluminium #recycling with our new furnace 6! With this furnace, we are now able to produce more slabs at the Hamburg casthouse while incorporating more scrap. This allows us to reduce our CO2 footprint and metal costs. Dr. Nils Bauerschlag explains: "While designing the new furnace, we also considered #safety aspects by incorporating many new features that allow us to operate this furnace much safer than before". With furnace 6, we are implementing state-of-the-art energy efficiency and process control for our customers. Alexander Doersel highlights: "This new furnace is important for us. At our safety day in the Rheinwerk plant, we set up interactive stations where employees could see the consequences of workplace accidents. These demonstrations highlighted critical concepts such as blind spots and the serious risks associated with situations where escape is impossible. During the event, we emphasized the importance of our four pillars in ensuring a safe work environment: 1.
